Demonstrators, including students, labor unions, and motorcycle taxi drivers, rallied in Jakarta and cities nationwide, demanding fairer wages, lower taxes, and institutional reforms. Tensions soared when 21-year-old delivery driver Affan Kurniawan was tragically killed by a police armored vehicle during a crowd dispersal in Jakarta, intensifying the unrest. Subsequent demonstrations saw government buildings and homes of parliament members torched, widespread clashes with police, and multiple fatalities reported as security forces deployed tear gas and water cannons.
