    Closing the book on this series with the seventh installment. In the first six, I went for bangers, earworms, personal favorites, and the tracks that were easiest to mix in and out of. What was left, I feared, were the skips and cast-asides. It turns out there’s no such thing in this folder of Skratch ’N Sniff (Malcolm Ryker and DJ Mike Czech) mashups I’ve had tucked away on my hard drive for the past 20 years. I honestly believe that both mainstream Rock and Roll and Hip Hop died after Y2K. That said, I’ve always had a soft spot for the early days of Skratch ’N Sniff’s mashups, before they put dubstep drops on everything and I lost interest after 2010. They used to post full edits on a now-defunct website, and sometime around 2004, I grabbed as many as I could and tucked them away. This whole series has been about giving Skratch ’N Sniff their flowers and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.     This mixtape is a collection of vaporwave edits I’ve made over the last 6 months. During the pandemic, I discovered Vaporwave while working from home. As an '80s kid, I was instantly hooked by the often repetitive, 'chopped-and-screwed' flips of obscure ‘80s and ‘90s songs, which left me nostalgic for that time while simultaneously reminding me of the DJ Screw tapes I used to collect back in college, especially when he would slip in random rock or '80s R&B songs. I also dug the weird Windows clipart aesthetic that shows up in so much of the artwork. This tape might be a departure from my usual, but I only make bangers. If you'd like to hear more examples of Vaporwave and its subgenres, check out Nightwave Plaza (https://plaza.one/) It’s basically all I listen to anymore besides other DJs’ mixtapes. The formula isn't rocket science and goes something like this: start with a clean audio file, slow it down until it sounds 'right', then experiment with different analog emulation plugins until it could pass for something from a Screw tape. Lastly, give the artwork a similar treatment, and you’re set.     I firmly believe that both mainstream Rock and Roll and Hip Hop died in the year 2000. That said, I’ve always had a genuine soft spot for the early days of Skratch 'N Sniff’s mashups, before they started putting dubstep drops on everything and I lost interest after 2010. They used to post their edits as full tracks on a now-defunct site, and sometime around 2004, I grabbed as many as I could and tucked them away for safekeeping.
