    The over-valued frontier companies of AI such as SPCX are hoping to get rich on tokens, but it’s more likely to drive ordinary companies to simply run AI models locally, at the “edge,” thus destroying the tokenomics of the token barons, including OpenAI and Anthropic. That’s all good news for the semiconductor world, including Qualcomm and Micron and Broadcom, where chips will continue to determine the progress of local AI models.

    Call them “The Left Behind,” tech stocks that don’t have an obvious payoff from AI and data centers, and that have consequently collapsed in valuation this year amidst weak share price performance. They come from all corners of tech, names such as Dolby and Lyft, and even quasi-industrial areas, such as specialty parts maker Pentair. I can’t say I’d recommend them all, but they are worth contemplating as a departure from the daily surges in stock price of Micron and Bloom Energy and the rest.

    $5 trillion of equity market cap among SpaceX, Anthropic and OpenAI, possibly more, is resting on just a hundred billion in revenue this year even in an optimistic scenario. That’s a forward price-to-sales of 50 times, an extraordinarily high multiple that is reminiscent of the go-go software days of 2020 to 2021 — a bubble that came crashing down in 2022. Brace yourselves.

But the SpaceX IPO, and the expected offerings of OpenAI and Anthropic will certainly be bought in a big way, and they will steal some thunder from Nvidia and the other normal stocks.
