The nonprofit organization opens its 19th season this week, featuring productions of Broadway Tony-winning revival “Once On This Island” and, for Theatre for a Young Audience, “The Wizard of Oz,” both at the bandshell in Waveny Park.

This week, we talk to Sue Scannell, a member for 20-plus years of the New Canaan Artisans. A nonprofit organization that’s been active since 1931, the New Canaan Artisans includes sewing, knitting and paper craft groups that produce not only clothes and accessories but also painting, jewelry and other crafts. This spring, after raising money at its biennial sales and at the Farmer’s Market, the organization gave away $24,000 in grants to 11 deserving local agencies.

This week, we talk to Nancy Bemis, co-chair of the New Canaan Sculpture Trail. Composed of 10 sculptures to be found throughout New Canaan and running under the theme “Open Space for Everyone,” the Sculpture Trail is up now and will remain in place through October. A kickoff celebration and fundraiser for the New Canaan Land Trust called “An Evening Under the Fireflies” will be held 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 17 at the Carriage Barn Arts Center.
