Professor Garland is an expert on Greek religion, Greek urban development, Greek society and social values, and Athenian topography. He also has an uncanny knack for finding the threads between antiquity and the modern world, and he is a well-respected scholar on the lives of everyday people in the ancient world. His most recent book, What to Expect When You're Dead: An ancient tour of death and the afterlife, was just published this year by Princeton University Press.
