This book is a true story of espionage, a true depiction of Mohanlal’s (author) entry into Pakistan during the Indo-Pak war of 1965, his arrest due to a betrayal and long prison torture. This book is not just a compilation of some courageous and sensible incidents, but also a historical analysis of the then situation of Pakistan. Along with exposing Pakistan's so-called Bhuttoist democracy, the ever-strengthening dictatorship and religious fanaticism and its socio-economic contradictions, it has also investigated those international sources of anti-India conspiracies, the incurable result of which we are facing in the form of 'Khalistani' ulcer.

डॉ वसुधा मिश्र इस हफ्ते हमसे साझा कर रही हैं - मोहनलाल भास्कर का अनुभव उनकी किताब में - "मैं पाकिस्तान में भारत का जासूस था"। ये किताब कहती है एक सिहरन पैदा कर देने वाली दास्तान, सत्य घटनाओं का वर्णन, कैसे मोहनलल भास्कर पाकिस्तान गए, वहाँ की जेलों में रहे, वहाँ क्या क्या हुआ और कैसे वो रिहा होके वापस आए।

इसमें 1965 के भारत-पाक युद्ध के दौरान लेखक के पाकिस्तान-प्रवेश, मित्रघात के कारण गिरफ़्तारी और लम्बी जेल-यातना का जीवंत चित्रण हुआ है। यह कृति कुछ साहसी और सूझबूझ-भरी घटनाओं का संकलन मात्र नहीं है, बल्कि पाकिस्तान के तत्कालीन हालात का भी ऐतिहासिक विश्लेषण करती है। इसमें पाकिस्तान के तथाकथित भुट्टोवादी लोकतंत्र, तानाशाही और धार्मिक कठमुल्लावाद और उसके सामाजिक-आर्थिक अन्तर्विरोधों को उघाड़ने के साथ-साथ भारत-विरोधी षड्यंत्रों के उन अन्तरराष्ट्रीय सूत्रों की भी पड़ताल की गई है, जिसके एक असाध्य परिणाम को हम ‘ख़ालिस्तानी’ नासूर की शक्ल में झेल रहे हैं। उसमें जहाँ एक ओर भास्कर ने पाकिस्तानी जेलों की नारकीय स्थिति, जेल-अधिकारियों के अमानवीय व्यवहार के बारे में बताया है, वहीं पाकिस्तानी अवाम और मेजर अय्याज अहमद सिपरा जैसे व्यक्ति के इंसानी बर्ताव को भी रेखांकित किया है।
