1994 is a road-trip comedy set in the spring of, you guessed it, 1994. It follows the adventures of High School junior Scott Sweet and his friends as they attempt to escape the boredom of their dead-end, small-town Arizona suburb by skipping school to go to Disneyland, deliver 20lbs of marijuana to L.A., team up with a bank robber on the lam, escape from angry unpaid mechanics, make a side trip to Las Vegas, accidently take peyote with a traveling band of hippies, avoid the cops, get laid, convince their parents not to ground them when they get home and maybe, just maybe, score enough money to take his high school crush to the prom. Hey, it beats 2nd period algebra!

Painful

A bunch of deeply unpleasant mediocrities go on a road trip and spread the misery around. The concept might be fine for a 2 hr movie but as a series, it makes you just want to light yourself on fire because everyone, especially Jack I-don’t-care-to-know-which-one, is needlessly horrible (edited for mistake in character’s name). It does not help that the show is filtered through rose colored glasses nostalgia that asks of you to dismiss Jack insulting a waitress for no reason, as “Ah, the dumb things we did in those halcyon days.”

I’m not holding my breath that the plot won’t be ultimately about how the protagonist will learn that the girl he badgers into promising to go to prom with him if he has money, will turn out to be not worthy of his affections. One wonders if this character will be allowed to internalize how deeply screwed up he is to think he can buy affection and how that is not the thought process of someone who is a good person, much less a good boyfriend.

Good fun, as always from Smiley

A class act in audio drama; this is a lot of fun. Very enjoyable. Takes me back!

Great show, I love the writing and the voice acting. Honestly so far I love everything made by Mr. Smiley that I have heard, doesn't seem like you can go wrong with his podcasts. Probably helps I was about the same age of the characters in 1994, very nostalgic. Good going Mr. Smiley, I'm a big fan.
