Two Cops One Donut

Sgt. Erik Lavigne

We were asked “what exactly is the point of this show?”Answer: social media is an underutilized tool by police. Not just police, but firefighters, DA’s, nurses, military, ambulance, teachers; front liners. This show is designed to reveal the full potential of true communication through long discussion format. This will give a voice to these professions that often go unheard from those that do it. Furthermore, it’s designed to show authentic and genuine response; rather than the tiresome “look, cops petting puppies” approach. We are avoiding the sound bite narrative so the first responders and those associated can give fully articulated thought. The idea is the viewers both inside and outside these career fields can gain realistic and genuine perspective to make informed opinions on the content. Overall folks, we want to earn your respect, help create the change you want and need together through all channels of the criminal justice system and those that directly impact it. This comes from the heart with nothing but positive intentions. That is what this show is about. From Patrol To SWAT To Staccato: Training That Actually Works

The best shooting you’ll ever see on a body‑worn camera looks deceptively calm. That kind of control doesn’t come from “stand still and pass the qual” culture—it comes from practical training that blends speed, accuracy, and judgment under stress. We sit down with Chris Palmer—retired Phoenix PD SWAT operator, academy firearms lead, and now part of Staccato’s training group—to unpack how departments can move from checkbox drills to performance that holds up on the street and in court. Chris takes us inside SWAT selection, life on a full‑time team, and the lessons that reshaped his teaching: most shootings involve movement before shots; everything is fast until officers regain control; and confidence is a community safety feature. We dig into the myths around “slow is smooth,” why time doesn’t create accuracy, and how training officers to recognize an acceptable sight picture at speed pays off when reality spikes. We also cover red dots on pistols—the index problem, faster learning for recruits, and why dots are a clarity tool rather than a crutch. Policy matters just as much as practice. Chris explains de‑escalation as an outcome, not a script; time‑distance‑cover as levers, not excuses; and duty‑to‑intervene language that sets clear expectations without assuming omniscience. Supervisors can use BWC to coach case law, handcuffing, and decision‑making before small misses become big headlines. And yes, we talk Staccato: what the HD platform changes, how a better trigger and design lower friction for learning, and why the company is investing heavily in open, modern law‑enforcement training rather than hype. If you care about safer officers, stronger communities, and shootings that withstand both review boards and public scrutiny, this conversation is your blueprint. Listen, share it with your training unit, and tell us: what’s the first upgrade your agency needs—movement reps, red dots, or supervisory follow‑through? We Break Down How Poor Training, Not Bad Intent, Fuels Bad Policing And What To Fix First

Training failures show up on camera long before intent does. That’s the uncomfortable truth we wrestle with as we unpack why officers who can pass a constitutional test still stumble on the street when emotions spike and decisions shrink to hundredths of a second. With Officer Jorge Lopez back in the chair, we go beyond blame and dig into fixes you can measure. We start with the human element: how stress “magnetizes” officers toward danger, why empathy is hard to simulate, and how the wrong FTO can turn a rookie cynical in four weeks. Then we get practical. VR is evolving past flat screens to full‑immersion, haptics, and branching scenarios that pressure‑test distance, cover, and tone. AI on bodycams is poised to surface department policy, state law, and translations in real time—recording the questions you ask and the logic you use. Drone first responder programs give “eyes on” in under a minute, buying the only commodity that truly boosts survivability: time. Two high‑stakes clips ground the talk. In a Walmart detention, a teen’s concealed pistol misfires at contact distance; the officer’s restraint and a bystander Marine’s control prevent a disaster and spotlight the cost of a poor pat‑down. In a hallway call, a suicidal subject with a knife sprints toward officers; commands collapse, and the priority of life takes over. We pull apart what went right and where training needs to adapt: holster discipline, obstacle use, disengagement, and scenario‑based constitutional drills that force choices under pressure, not just recitation in a classroom. We don’t dodge the tough policy questions either. Fixed “25‑foot” filming laws are brittle; “reasonable distance” tied to a clear marker is smarter. Case law like Pennsylvania v. Mims exists for officer safety, not convenience—abuse it and we’ll lose it. Transparency shouldn’t stop at patrol; bodycams shouldn’t mute, and courts should meet the same standard with smart redaction. The throughline is simple: better training beats tough talk. From Patrol To Pro: How Narcotics And Gang Units Train, Work, And Win

You can spot a real cop’s education in the way they build a case, not just how they make a stop. We sit down with two seasoned pros who turned years in patrol, gangs, and narcotics into a clear, step-by-step blueprint for specialized work: how to get selected without the buddy system, how to train beyond “watch and learn,” and how to carry a case from probable cause to proof beyond a reasonable doubt. We dig into the hiring signals that matter—bodycam audits from real weeks, not staged ride-alongs; 360 feedback from peers and those supervised; report samples that show articulation and judgment. Then we map the training path: drug ID and evolving slang, surveillance and countersurveillance, UC safety, entries, and the case law officers must master to survive cross-exam. On the gang side, you’ll get an inside look at a modern structure—enforcement, detectives, intel, and prevention—and how intel pushes timely forecasts to keep patrol from walking into “not your average loud party.” The craft pieces are practical and blunt: why plainclothes isn’t 5.11 pants and a posture, how to run safe, controlled stops with LPRs and cameras miles away from the heat, and why your network is more valuable than your gear. We talk about national information-sharing, smarter takedowns, and report writing that won’t crumble in court. Just as important, we cover how to talk to people without faking it—respect first, honest questions, and the consistency that builds cooperation over time. If you care about safer streets, better cases, and a career that lasts, this conversation delivers. Check out BS Narcotics for hands-on, active-duty-led training and details on their first annual Narcotics & Gangs conference (Nov 1–4, 2026, Central Texas). Chalk, Tasers, And The Line Between Law And Sense

Livestream chat, A gun goes click in a cramped Walmart loss prevention office—and everything that happens next becomes a quiet masterclass in officer safety, close-quarter decision-making, and restraint. We walk through the moment frame by frame: why a simple pat-down could have changed everything, how cooperation lulls even experienced cops into skipping steps, and why attacking the presented gun beat reaching for a holster when the room shrank to a few feet. Credit where it’s due: an alert LP employee and quick-thinking officers likely prevented a deadly outcome. The charges? Think attempted murder—and think about the chain of small choices that got them there. From high-stakes to head-scratching, we unpack calls that shouldn’t escalate. Sidewalk chalk that washes away isn’t a public safety crisis; it’s an opportunity to educate, warn, and move on. Same for plate frames and obstruction laws—if a reasonable person can read the state and number, straining the statute erodes trust and invites dropped cases. Sensible enforcement and clear laws do more for legitimacy than any press release. And when we talk about what truly protects kids, we draw a hard line: stop doxxing undercover units. Viral clout that outs ICAC teams doesn’t “expose” anything—it teaches predators what to avoid and puts children at risk. We also analyze a Florida taser clip with nuance: back probes, clear commands, and post-compliance de-escalation suggest policy alignment, but necessity depends on context—paraphernalia risk, ground surface, suspect history, and officer fitness all matter. The recruiting debate lands where it should: set rigorous, relevant standards and hold everyone to them. Command presence flows from training, judgment, and team tactics, not height alone. If you want better policing, push for clear statutes, realistic training, and hiring that prioritizes character and skill—and use your voice. Body cams, de-escalation, crisis response, and pursuit reforms didn’t appear out of nowhere; communities demanded them. Why Cops Screw Up: Constitution and Arrest Search & Seizure

Ever wondered where a traffic stop actually ends, or why a simple order to step out of the car can ignite a constitutional fight? We brought on a rare voice who has lived both sides of the badge—a former highway patrol sergeant turned Harvard Grad attorney, Anthony Bandiero—to demystify search and seizure with plain, usable rules. Together, we press into the places cops and citizens collide: Qualified Immunity, the moment a warning becomes a ticket, what Pennsylvania v. Mims truly permits, and how to handle speech without letting emotion drive enforcement. We move from the curb to the front door and into the yard, where curtilage is the most violated and least understood terrain. You’ll hear a clean framework—consent, recognized exception, or warrant—for any search or seizure at a home, plus clear guidance on arrests at a suspect’s domicile versus third-party residences under Steagald. We unpack real scenarios: loud backyard parties and exigency, knock-and-talks that drift into unlawful entry, and what “reason to believe” someone is present actually looks like. Then we widen the lens to modern surveillance. Flock cameras, fusion centers, and private feeds don’t automatically trigger Katz today, but a mesh of cameras tracking your movement like virtual GPS might. We talk policy, FOIA pitfalls, and how agencies can protect privacy while still solving crime. And yes, we tackle qualified immunity—where it makes sense, where it fails, and why courts should be forced to answer whether a right was violated before awarding immunity. The fix isn’t just legal; it’s cultural: more training, better articulation, less ego. That’s how you cut lawsuits, strengthen cases, and earn trust. If you care about the Fourth Amendment, practical policing, or simply understanding your rights, this conversation delivers clarity without the legal fog. Police Ego 101: Class Is In Session

Ever watch a simple contact spiral because someone felt disrespected? We sat down with Ofc. Jorge Lopez, a 30-year officer and veteran trainer, to unpack why ego flares so fast on the street and how to keep decisions anchored in reason, law, and outcome. Jorge doesn’t preach clichés—he maps the psychology. Using Freud’s id–ego–superego as a field-ready model, he shows how the “horse” (id) wants instant gratification, the “reins” (superego) tug toward ideals, and the “rider” (ego) has to steer under stress. When a “snake on the trail” appears—insults, defiance, a sudden kick—officers feel before they think. The trick is noticing the spike and buying time. We break down the limbic system and amygdala’s threat signals versus the prefrontal cortex where law, policy, and judgment live. Anger is fast, fear is loud, and love—duty to protect—often proves stronger than both. George offers practical tools: the RULER method to recognize, label, and regulate emotions; the Johari Window to reveal blind spots that only emerge under heat; and his Four C’s—Camera, Communicate, Contact, Control—to structure every interaction. Add his favorite formula—Distance + Cover = Time—and you get a simple path to safer, smarter choices that hold up in court and on camera. We also challenge the illusion of control. Crowds can’t be commanded into calm; you monitor potential threats while solving the actual problem. Talk more, force less. Competence breeds calm, and the best fighters rarely need to prove it. You’ll hear how internal scripts—It’s not personal; Don’t take the bait; Is this worth my career?—help officers steer back to thinking. And beyond tactics, we talk identity: building a life outside the badge so the job doesn’t own you. If you’re a cop, trainer, or curious citizen, this conversation delivers actionable mindset, emotional intelligence, scenario training insights, and street-proven frameworks to reduce unnecessary force and improve outcomes. Coffee, Cops, And Stop Sticks

Ever watch a pursuit video and wonder why an officer “threw” stop sticks instead of pulling them in from cover? We break down the safer method, the training behind it, and a harrowing story of an officer who nearly lost his leg deploying spikes the wrong way. That opens a bigger conversation about tactics, judgment, and when “off duty” ends—the moment you flip the lights and assert authority, you’re responsible as if you’re on the clock. From there, we shift into accountability that actually improves outcomes. A magnet fishing crew finds live ordnance and gets scolded for “wasting resources.” We call that what it is—lazy policing—and lay out the correct EOD response. Then we dissect a controversial stop where a warning is issued, yanked back, and swapped for a ticket after tempers flare. We unpack why that likely fails legally and ethically, how Pennsylvania v. Mims is often misapplied, and why officers must articulate true safety concerns rather than let ego drive enforcement. We also challenge a popular myth: more patrol cars don’t automatically reduce crime. Focused two-officer units, problem-oriented strategies, and credible community investment outperform random patrols. Mentoring youth and reentry programs lower recidivism more than hot-spot cruising ever will. And if we’re serious about reform, accountability can’t stop with cops—judges and prosecutors wield enormous discretion with far less scrutiny. Real change balances all three legs of the justice system. Auditors take the spotlight too. The best elevate training and public understanding; the worst provoke for clicks. We outline how departments can avoid the bait, verify a complaining party, and protect First Amendment activity with a simple, respectful acknowledgment. To close, we highlight a life-saving response: an officer recognizes a medical emergency behind the wheel and acts fast, proving that care and competence still define this profession at its best. How A First Amendment Auditor Sparked Real Police Training And Hard Truths

A school police officer told an auditor that filming an officer is illegal. It wasn’t—and what followed became a masterclass in rights, ego, and how quickly a routine moment can unravel when the law takes a back seat. We invited David from San Joaquin Valley Transparency to walk us through the viral arrest and the lessons he’s learned after years of auditing—then put those claims under the microscope with three cops who train recruits and call out bad policing. Together we map the real line between lawful public recording and unlawful interference and explain why prior restraint and, in California, the Bain Act matter on the street—not just in court. We talk through field-tested approaches any patrol officer can use today: speak to the caller first, observe before you engage, and treat auditors as a chance to educate the public. We also get into the cultural stuff you won’t see in a policy binder: how ego fills the gap when an officer isn’t sure, why a simple “let me verify” can defuse a confrontation, and how confidence from jiu‑jitsu or boxing training lowers hesitation and reduces force. David shares concrete wins achieved through public records, complaint routing, and sustained local pressure, including leadership changes that followed documented misconduct. We push for more transparency, including body‑worn cameras that stay on with no muting during calls, and accountability that extends past police to prosecutors, judges, and corrections. The conversation lands on a nuanced truth: yes, we need professionals to handle real violence, and yes, citizens must know their rights. When both are true in practice, cameras become bridges, not battlegrounds. If you care about First Amendment audits, police reform that actually works, and the kind of training that protects everyone, this one’s worth your time.
