The Misophonia Podcast

Adeel Ahmad

Candid conversations with people who live with Misophonia. Misophonia is a disorder in which there is a strong sensitivity to certain sounds. A person with misophonia feels rage and an inability to focus on anything but that sound. It feels like a fight-or-flight response. Host Adeel Ahmad has misophonia and interviews other "misophones" from around the world. All episodes are edited to be more sensory-friendly including equalization and brown noise. #230 - Pia

This week I’m talking to Pia Watson. Pia is an actor, artist, and body-mind transpersonal therapist currently in Mexico City and about to move to London. We talk about her experience with misophonia, autism, ADHD, and autistic burnout, and how all of those layers can heighten sensory overwhelm. Pia shares early memories of trying to escape teeth grinding on family vacations, hiding in a closet as a safe place, strategically choosing seats in classrooms, and gradually realizing that what she was dealing with had a name. We also get into her path through acting, art, shamanism, meditation, Qigong, hypnosis, and self-hypnosis, and how those practices changed her relationship to misophonia—not necessarily by “fixing” triggers overnight, but by helping her nervous system respond differently. A lot of this conversation circles around trauma, masking, modern life, neurodivergence, and the possibility that misophonia may be part of a much larger mind-body picture. Pia also talks about her work with clients, her interest in supporting neurodivergent people in Spanish-speaking spaces, and why she’s rethinking how therapy might help people with sensory issues.  --- Try the new Misophonia Podcast app: https://app.misophoniapodcast.com Web: https://misophoniapodcast.com Order "Sounds like Misophonia" - by Dr. Jane Gregory and I Email: hello@misophoniapodcast.com Send me any feedback! #227 - Lorin and Eric

This week I'm talking to Los Angeles actors and filmmakers Lorin and Eric Davis about Lorin’s experience with misophonia and how it shaped their new short film. Lorin shares how her sound triggers—especially crinkling bags, rummaging noises, and even typing—show up in daily life, and how she’s learned to cope through hot yoga, silence breaks, sleep, and masking sounds. The couple also discusses how clear communication and empathy in a relationship can keep misophonia from turning into resentment, even when everyday habits like snacking become unexpectedly stressful. Their project, “Auditory Problems,” is a comedy that lets the main character act out the socially “unacceptable” impulses misophonia can provoke, blurring what’s real versus imagined for the viewer. As they head into post-production and festival submissions, Lorin and Eric hope the film helps people feel seen—and lets the community laugh with a little more relief.  Instagram: @auditoryproblems  ----- Try the new Misophonia Podcast app: https://app.misophoniapodcast.com Web: https://misophoniapodcast.com Order "Sounds like Misophonia" - by Dr. Jane Gregory and I Email: hello@misophoniapodcast.com Send me any feedback! #224 - Michelle G.

This week I’m talking to Michelle, an animator and 3D artist based in Malta—one of the most population-dense places in Europe. After discovering her misophonia and realizing how Malta's constant noise amplified her struggles, Michelle channeled her experience into an immersive art project. Working with a local focus group of people with misophonia, she created a short animated film designed to let others experience what we go through—complete with trigger sounds and unsettling visuals using a unique printing technique called Risograph. The project opens at a gallery in Malta and will eventually hit the film festival circuit. We also talk about her ADHD diagnosis, how moving to quiet Denmark gave her relief, and what it's like navigating misophonia on a tiny, crowded island.  Exhibition: https://spazjukreattiv.org/event/misophonia/ Instagram for behind the scenes into the project: @funeral_biscuit  Ko-fi shop for prints from the project: https://ko-fi.com/funeral_biscuit/shop  This project is supported by Arts Council Malta, sponsored by TVPaint and is part of the Spazju Kreattiv 2025/2026 program.    ----- Web: https://misophoniapodcast.com Order "Sounds like Misophonia" - by Dr. Jane Gregory and I Email: hello@misophoniapodcast.com Send me any feedback!
