Have you considered homeschool because you feel like the traditional school system just isn’t meeting your family’s needs as a Black family? Are you worried about finding opportunities to connect with other families of color so that your kids have a safe space to socialize with their peers? Is it hard creating a homeschool schedule that balances your responsibilities as a working mom? Are you struggling to find the perfect curriculum that’s rich with cultural representation and meets your kids’ educational needs? If any of that sounds familiar, I’m so glad to have you here! This podcast will empower you to take control of your children's education, help you create a personalized learning experience that uplifts and nurtures your children inside and out, and will help you maximize quality time and embrace this learning journey together as a family. Hi, I’m Elan: a proud Spelman alumna, a wife and a working homeschool mom of 2. But before homeschooling became our way of life, I looked into every type of school imaginable for my girls. I simply couldn’t find a traditional learning environment that truly met their needs. I tried small private schools, speciality charter schools, and I researched all the public schools near me that boasted the best test scores. But I finally realized that if I wanted the personalized learning for my kids that would affirm them and allow them to dive deeper into their natural interests and passions, then I would have to take control of their education and completely reimagine what school could look like for my family. So I decided to start homeschooling. I developed a simple framework that allowed me to create the learning environment my girls needed to thrive, while helping me balance my role as a working homeschool mom. And now I’m sharing that framework with you! So if you’re ready to take control and create a homeschool experience… Tailored to your children's learning needs… Connected with other homeschool families of color… All while spending more quality time together as a family - then this is the podcast for you! So pop in those earbuds and get ready to be educated and inspired by fellow Black moms who are reimagining education for their families and instilling a lifelong love of learning. Because if they can do it, I know you can too! Let’s do homeschool our way.

I’ll walk you through some of the most common objections you might hear and share practical ways to respond with confidence and peace. *This conversation isn’t about debating or convincing anyone. 99: "Socialization" Is Overrated: Here’s What Homeschoolers Really Need

Let’s talk about the polarizing subject of “homeschool socialization”.  For many of us, it’s the fear that nearly keeps us from starting. But I believe that what homeschoolers really need is something deeper. In this episode, I’m tackling some of the biggest myths about homeschool socialization and showing you how to build richer, more lasting relationships for your kids and your whole family. 🎧 Here’s what we’ll cover: The real ways that homeschoolers can meet and connect with friends Why socialization doesn’t have to look like a classroom full of kids How one family’s search for community led them to an unexpected (and perfect) fit Why homeschooling creates opportunities for the whole family to build community If the “socialization” question has been holding you back from living out the full freedom of homeschooling, this episode will give you fresh perspective and the encouragement that community will come. ******************* Homeschooling doesn’t have to feel uncertain. My free START Homeschooling Workshop will walk you through the five essential steps to begin your journey with clarity, including a lesson on creating the kind of support and community that makes this journey sustainable.
