In this episode, Minmin and Maomao talk about how bilingual families in the U.S. can help their children stick with speaking Chinese and not “lose” their mother tongue. Maomao's family is a typical bilingual family, and she has plenty of hands-on experience guiding her kids to use Chinese, even their regional dialect, Shanghainese. We shared some of our own little strategies, and also touched on real-life challenges — like how kids often switch entirely to English once they start school, or how to help your English-speaking spouse understand your conversations with the kids.
