51 First Dates

This is a fun, wise, intelligent and only very sometimes depressing podcast. I have never dated, but I love listening anyway! I only found it a week ago, but I’ve been going through it very quickly!

Was excited to listen to this, but on the first episode one of the hosts talks about how she finds skinny guys unattractive. And while of course e’eryone’s got their preferences, as a skinny guy myself, it didn't want to make me listen to the podcast. I think they could be a little more sensitive to who might be listening.

I discovered 51 first dates in 2018 while struggling with a breakup and trying to put myself back out there. I found Kimmy’s journey to be very relatable as I had gone through my 20s without any serious relationships even though I very much wanted one. Listening to Kimmy and Liza felt like catching up with friends and it helped me go into each new date with a little less pressure on myself. It feels bittersweet that they’re pausing the podcast at this time as I just got married last week after meeting my “gem” in 2020. Even though I’ve been in a committed relationship for 2 years, I’ve still enjoyed listening to each episode.

I’ve been listening to 51 First Dates, well, since their first date! The interplay between these two funny women is always entertaining and, as a guy, I’ve found it very interesting to learn so much about the dating world from a female perspective. This show has helped me through dating, my first long-term relationship, my first long-term relationship break-up, and even got me excited about doing therapy (their unofficial sponsor of choice!). I look forward to whatever the future brings from Kimmy, Liza, and their knowledgable guests/guest daters. Here’s to 1500 more First Dates!
