As the title states, I’m a big N.S. For his critical game reviews and synopses on why certain games/companies were halted. I only started 5 episode prior and had an okay time, but this episode was the nail-in-the-coffin for me for the podcast. I’m on the opposite side of the gaming spectrum than he is (I prefer PvE over PvP significantly and only prefer grouping when doing instanced PvE content), but I still find his feedback engaging and meaningful. That all said, his episode covering him reviewing X-Plays Review was just absolutely cringey. And yes, the way X-Plays did review in retrospect was quite cringey, but he completely missed the context of gaming back in day of when people didn’t even know how to leave the starting zones in WoW. He kept viewing their review as unprofessional (mind you they definitely were) and was “insulted” with some of their review. The level of stringency and elitism he produced in that one episode was too much, especially given the fact the episodes he review were near the turn of the millennium. I’m going to pretend to understand the gaming company’s mind set, but he used the power of hindsight (from almost 20 years worth of gaming since the episodes he review) to put down these review and this took greater than 30min of the podcast; exhausting. If you’re a die-hard fan of N.S., you’ll likely be able to overlook his non-scripted personality, but I can’t in good heart recommend the podcast for someone who doesn’t know of him.
