    Send us a text Holding Treasure In Our Hearts  “Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.” - Luke 2:19 Mary experienced so many spectacular and extraordinary moments… The visit of the angel, her fearless decision to answer her calling, pregnancy, a new husband, and the miracle of birth.  Many of us have had moments of transcendence, where we experience the luminous. Others of us have been witnesses of the miraculous. Still others of us have had our hearts stirred and our spirits come alive in ways that are hard to put into words.  Then comes the daily grind. Mary now had baby to be cared for, meals to be prepared, a household maintained, a new marriage to navigate, and many miles to travel and places to visit, as she and Joseph struggled to find a place to call home.  Luminal moments are special and rare. They have to sustain us for a lifetime as we return to the demands of ordinary life. May we like Mary, treasure these moments and hold them in our hearts.  I’m Horace McMillon.     Send us a text If It’s Not Good News For Everyone… “But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people:” - Luke 2:10 We fear that there isn’t enough to go around. We suppose that life is like a pie, where when someone gets a slice that leaves a little less for anyone else to have. And we’re not trying to do without.  We operate under the assumption that some folks are going to have, and others are going to have to do without. Then we do everything in our power to make sure we get ours even if it comes at someone else’s expense. In our minds, that’s just the way things are.  The good news is for everyone, particularly those living in the shadows and in the margins. It declares…. The hungry will be fed. The naked will be clothed. The thirsty will be given to drink. The sick will be cared for. And the stranger will be welcomed.  If it’s not good news for everyone, it’s not the gospel.     Waiting For Delivery

    Send us a text Waiting For Delivery  “While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child.”- Luke 2:6 We are like expecting mothers. Our lives are pregnant with possibility and potential. Yet there are no short cuts to delivery. There is no way to hasten the time. Instead we do the best we can to care for ourselves in order to care for the life within us while enduring the pain and discomfort with the joy of hope filled anticipation.  We are like expecting fathers. We may not have the life of another within us. Yet we do every we can to provide and protect for the lives of mother and child. We are eager to meet the life that will come into the world. Despite our occasional feelings of helplessness, we do everything in our power, and use every ability and every resource at our disposal to create the space and place for our growing family to thrive.  We like mother and father do not control the delivery timeline. Like mother and father together, we are waiting for delivery. Our waiting is not passive but active and proactive.  I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope.     Send us a text Let Us Embrace Our True Identities  Our true identities are those of gods and goddesses, children of the most high God. Our lives are to serve dwelling places of the most high. (Psalm 82 & 1 Corinthians 3:16) In our verse for today, Jesus “was declared to be Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection from the dead…” -from Romans 1:4  We too are recognized as the children of God when we embrace our true identities. We embrace our true identities in and through loving God, ourselves, and everyone and everything else with everything we have.  Loving fully and completely connects us to the sacred and the holy. Connection to the sacred and the holy gives us power of the resurrection, the power to redeem and restore lives and to transform the world.  We embrace our true identities by living in love.     Send us a text Wake Up And Get To Work  “When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him;” - from Matthew 1:24 We may be able to distinguish body, mind, and spirit, but in this life, there is no separating them. They are interconnected and interdependent. Proper rest is essential to our physical and spiritual wellbeing.  It’s essential for us that we dream. “People without a vision perish.” (Proverbs 29:18) Joseph’s dream was the type of vision that brought meaning and purpose to his life. It allowed him understand how his seemingly ordinary life could be an extraordinary part of changing the world.  Resting and replenishing ourselves is an essential first step in our spiritual journeys. Embracing a dream, a vision for ourselves and the world is a second. The third is no less important. We have to follow through. Once we’ve done the first two, we have to wake up and get to work.     Send us a text When We Feel Like God Is Angry  “You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure.”- Psalm 80:5 When we feel like God is angry… When we feel like we must be going through some kind of punishment or divine retribution… When we feel forsaken, abandoned or alone…  Do as the ancient psalmist did. Trust in the power of God’s love to restore and deliver us- all of us. Pray as they prayed: “Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved.” And trust God to answer.  The long shadows of our anger and fear, remorse and regret, guilt and shame will always disappear in the light of God’s love.  God’s loving face will shine upon us, and we will be saved.  I’m Horace McMillon.     Send us a text When Our Purpose Is Bigger Than Our “Face” “When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife.” - Matthew 1:24 The concept of “face” has to do with one’s reputation, social dignity, and respect in the eyes of others. One’s social standing matters in just about every society, and particularly matters where honor and shame carry great weight.  Joseph choosing to wife Mary, a woman who would now be seen as unchaste and impure in the eyes of their society in many ways made him worse than Mary. What kind of simp would choose to do that? Joseph decided to ignore his “face”. His purpose, mission, and calling were more important to him than how he was seen in the eyes of others. He understood that true honor is not bestowed externally, but emerges from within.  We will always be prisoners to the opinions of others until our purpose is bigger than our “face”.
