In this thoughtful Tamil moral tale, the kingdom of Vijayapuri is ruled by King Vijayavarman, who sends his witty but diminutive-in-appearance minister Mahipalan as an ambassador. At the neighbouring court, the king insults the minister’s stature, thinking to belittle him.

Instead, Mahipalan uses his calm intelligence, respectfully responding with a cleverly phrased story about his own country’s custom; revealing that sometimes the one sent may reflect the wisdom of his own land. The offended king realises his mistake, bows his head, and resolves never to speak in a way that hurts others.

This story teaches children and families: words matter. When we speak with disrespect or mockery, we may wound someone’s feelings and eventually face regret. Speaking kindly, with humility and respect, brings dignity and builds trust.
