Darren Aronofsky - Requiem For A Dream

Darren Aronofsky - Requiem For A Dream

Look at us, actually on schedule! We are back to talk about another disturbing work from Aronofsky. This time we look at DARE's wet dream, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM. Everyone says not to watch it more than once, but we're going in. Can we handle a movie with the worst Joker and the Scary Movie guy? Just kidding, we mainly talk about Ellen Burstyn. Follow us on Twitter Look at the pretty pictures on Instagram Donate to the show and get rewards on Patreon! Email us and tell us we're wrong at directedbypod@gmail.com

    Darren Aronofsky -Pi

Ok, here we go with a new director for Mike and Dave. I think we picked a challenging one this time around, with Darren Aronofsky! We begin with his first film, PI! Will this be too esoteric? Or maybe it's a hidden gem once you get past all the math and hideous hairlines. Darren Aronofsky -Expert Intro with Richard Newby

We are back right away with a new director! This time we go full pretentious cinephile with Darren Aronofsky.  And our expert is prolific writer for The Hollywood Reporter, Richard Newby. We talk faith, unwanted guests, strategic camerawork, and duality. But also, we have fun! Listen in! Writing mentioned in the episode found here!https://newbyfadeto.blogspot.com/2014/04/noah-review-dir.htmlhttp://www.audienceseverywhere.net/god-help-noah-mother-aronofskys-mythic-domestic-horrors/http://www.audienceseverywhere.net/10-good-movies-never-want-see/http://www.audienceseverywhere.net/mother-inspired-creation/   Follow Richard on Twitter:  https://twitter.com/richardlnewby Follow us on Twitter Look at the pretty pictures on Instagram Donate to the show and get rewards on Patreon! Email us and tell us we're wrong at directedbypod@gmail.com

    Amy Heckerling - Clueless

    Amy Heckerling - Clueless

And here we go, Mike will be happy. We have arrived at CLUELESS.  Does yet another teen classic from Amy Heckerling hold up? Does the Fox News of it all ruin anything? Or is it all as it should be?  Tune in to find out if two old men from Kentucky can still enjoy this one. Follow us on Twitter Look at the pretty pictures on Instagram Donate to the show and get rewards on Patreon! Email us and tell us we're wrong at directedbypod@gmail.com

Amy Heckerling - Johnny Dangerously and Vamps

Amy Heckerling - Johnny Dangerously and Vamps

We return finally! Dave drags Mike back into the booth to talk about two more Heckerling movies. First, we look at JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY, a movie seemingly built in a lab to annoy our cohosts.  Gotta be honest, we move on pretty quickly. Keaton is not funny enough and way too short for Mike. But on a happier note, we watch VAMPS a wildly underseen and really fun vampire comedy. Join us as we complain about the lack of output from our favorite women in film!  Follow us on Twitter Look at the pretty pictures on Instagram Donate to the show and get rewards on Patreon! Email us and tell us we're wrong at directedbypod@gmail.com

Cool Concept, Executed with Fun

I’ve always appreciated a good deep dive in a film podcast. This one spends a full month on a filmmaker, choosing a film or two per episode and even has an “expert” on the director weighing in. It’s smart and fun, the hosts are thoughtful in their commentary but don’t talk down. Good stuff.
