Cruz Flores and James Kislingbury love movies and love yelling at each other about them. Whether they're good, bad, involve lesbian vampires, or a good old fashioned vigilante shooting spree, we'll be there, over thinking all of it.

    #418 Dostoevsky's THE BIG DOLL HOUSE (1971)

    #418 Dostoevsky's THE BIG DOLL HOUSE (1971)

EPISODE #418-- We eschew all semblance of taste and decency to celebrate the life and death of Roger Corman (RIP) with the women-in-prison nightmare THE BIG DOLL HOUSE from 1971. It's got Pam Grier and that's about the best thing in the movie. The rest of is a fetid horrorshow of 1970's politics, exploitation aesthetics, and run of the mill schlock. It was a massive box office success.
We also talk George Miller's THE ROAD WARRIOR (1981), Vera Drew's THE PEOPLE'S JOKER (2024), CAPTAIN MILLER (2024), as well as Hitchcock's THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, along with GAMBIT and Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI. A fine little episode.

    #417 Hodgson's THE SEVENTH CURSE

    #417 Hodgson's THE SEVENTH CURSE

EPISODE #417-- We return to our roots with the Hong Kong schlock fest THE SEVENTH CURSE (1986). Directed by the same maniac that made RIKI-O: THE STORY OF RICKY and staring Chow Yun Fat (barely), it's a wild one. Not quite Indiana Jones and not quite a martial arts movie. It's a melange of madness that you just have to see to believe.
We also talk about the original MAD MAX (1979), Ford's THE SEARCHER (1956), LILO & STITCH (2002), Edward Zwick's THE LAST SAMURAI (2003), and, once again, we talk about Akira Kurosawa's RAN (1985).

    #416 Michener's SHOGUN (2024)

    #416 Michener's SHOGUN (2024)

EPISODE #416-- In this epic-length episode we take on the epic-length mini-series SHOGUN from 2024. In short: We loved it. It's a great remake of a great novel. A perfect follow-up to GAME OF THRONES. It's just what the doctor ordered. It's also great if you like to hear funny voices from loud white boys-- and I know you do.
We also talk about FALLOUT (2024) (again), Dev Patel's MONKEY MAN (2024), and James Cameron's THE ABYSS (1989).

    #415 Stevenson's KONG X GODZILLA: THE NEW EMPIRE (2024)

EPISODE #415-- We return to the world of big boys with KONG X GODZILLA, the latest installment in Legendary's Monsterverse (AKA the only good cinematic universe). We do love our big boys, don't we, folks?
We also talk about the continuing excellence of SHOGUN (2024), Amazon's FALLOUT (2024), Netflix's RIPLEY (2024), the documentary LUMUMBA: THE DEATH OF A PROPHET (2000), as well as Kurosawa's KAGEMUSHA (1980), Apple Plus' SLOW HORSES, and the original KING KONG. Lot's of good stuff.

    #414 Shaara's GLORY (1989)

    #414 Shaara's GLORY (1989)

EPISODE #414-- Just in time to commemorate the 159th anniversary of the ending of the American Civil War, we have Edward Zwick's GLORY from 1989. Staring Morgan Freeman, Matthew Broderick, Andre Braugher (RIP), and Denzel Washington, Glory tells the story of the first African-American regiment raised in the United States of America. It's great. One of the all-timers. Check it out and come back. We'll be waiting. Also: Happy Black History Month. Sorry for the delay. Real weird start of the year for us on the show.
We also talk about LADY SNOWBLOOD (1971), Guilermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM (2013), SAMURAI I: MIYAMOTO MUSASHI (1954), Johnathan Glazer's SEXY BEAST (2000), and Kurosawa's HIGH AND LOW (1963). Lotta great films this episode.
No, but, really. Weird start of the year. It'd like to say it'll be normal after this, but well. . .

    #413 Maas' DEEP COVER (1992)

    #413 Maas' DEEP COVER (1992)

EPISODE #413-- We get into the grittier end of the 1990's with the neo-noir classic from Bill Duke DEEP COVER (1992). A good episode, a big episode, and the right movie to belatedly celebrate Black History Month. Hell of a film, folks. Hell of a film.
We also talk about Wim Wenders' PERFECT DAYS (2023), Villenueve's DUNE PART II (2024), PAST LIVES (2023), Kurosawa's SANSHIRO SUGATA (1943), Lanthimos' POOR THINGS (2032), and Honda's RODAN (1956), and (deep breath, we're almost there), we talk about TV's SHOGUN (2024) and the finale of MASTERS OF THE AIR (2024).

A Quality Podcast

I'm giving this podcast 5 out of 5 stars because iTunes won't let me give it 6 out of 5 stars. This is a great show with two smart and funny hosts discussing all sorts of movies, good and bad. Definitely worth your time.

Illiterates chatting is not a movie podcast

How dare you sit and make a podcast about movies when you don’t even know who Tim Roth is or you didn’t even bother take a brief look at at least Wikipedia for the movie plot !! Why are you insisting on embarrassing yourself? No need to shout out your ignorance to the world. Do yourself a favor and don’t announce your illiteracy and don’t waste the listeners time!
