    Starting with Epimenides, circa 600 B.C., the polytheistic ancient Greeks made sacrifices on altars devoted to the Unknown God. The Apostle Paul quoted Epimenides to the Athenians, bringing many to know Jesus; and also quotes him in an iconic verse in the Book of Acts.
