    Trouble at Rocky Comfort Creek: The Mysterious Disappearance of Bill “Bo Peep” Farrer

    On Friday the 13th of September 2002, a Georgia man vanished without a trace. Bill Farrer’s vehicle and fishing supplies were found abandoned at a quiet creek where he often went fishing. At first, it seemed like Bill may have suffered some kind of accident and drowned. But after an extremely thorough search of the shallow creek turned up nothing, that explanation started to seem less likely. As the hours passed, Bill’s close-knit family started thinking back on some of the things that had happened in the years and months leading up to his disappearance. There were questions about whether Bill had stumbled into something he shouldn’t have, and just months earlier, he had been attacked by two men at that very same creek. Bill lived a pretty simple life, but there was a lot more going on beneath the surface. More than two decades later, his family is still trying to figure out what happened to him that Friday morning.     The Secret Trip: The Unsolved Disappearance of Patricia "Patti" Adkins

    In the summer of 2001, a woman clocks out of her shift at the Honda factory, eagerly anticipating a week away with her boyfriend. She had been telling her family about the trip for weeks and was so excited. They were going to spend some much-needed time together at a secluded cabin in Canada, and it would be the first time she and her boyfriend had been able to take a trip like this. Her family did not expect to hear from her throughout the week, but when she didn’t return to pick up her daughter, they knew something was wrong. Suddenly, the strange details she had shared about the trip beforehand took on a more sinister meaning. The more her loved ones looked into what she had told them, the more disturbing it became. This year marked 25 years without justice in her case, one where many people believe someone blatantly got away with murder.     Encountering Evil: The Cowden Family Murders

    A young family takes a spontaneous camping trip over Labor Day weekend in 1974. On Sunday morning, everything at their campsite looks normal. There are things from breakfast on the picnic table, a dishpan filled with water, children’s belongings, and a carton of milk bought just hours earlier. But by that evening, the entire family is gone. Their truck is still parked nearby. The keys, a wallet, and a purse have all been left behind. It looks like they stepped away from the campsite expecting to come right back. The family was camping near Copper, Oregon, a tiny community within the Siskiyou National Forest that has since been inundated and buried beneath Applegate Lake. More than fifty years later, the full story of what happened there remains buried with it.     Abducted at the Arcade: The Unsolved Murder of Alexander Harris

    Just after Thanksgiving in 1987, a seven-year-old boy was traveling home to California with his family after spending the holiday in Las Vegas. Heavy traffic led the family to stop at a hotel and casino along the way. The hotel had an arcade, and his family set him up with a game while they waited. They believed he would be safe there. But shortly before they were ready to leave, he was gone. Witnesses would later report seeing the boy leave the arcade hand-in-hand with an unknown man. An intensive search continued for weeks before ending with the worst possible outcome. In the years that followed, the case would take a complicated path toward justice. But nearly four decades later, no one has ever been held responsible.     “He’s Just Awfully Naïve”: The Unsolved Murder of Debra Lynn O’Quinn

    On a May evening in 1979, an eighteen-year-old woman went car shopping with her dad. Afterward, he dropped her off at her apartment, and the two went through their usual routine. She went inside first, did a quick safety walk-through, and then came back outside to let her father know everything was okay and he was good to head home. It would be the last time he saw his daughter. The next morning, her roommate returned to the apartment to pick her up for work. Instead, she found her roommate missing and a disturbing scene left behind. Months would pass before a pair of men doing target practice made a discovery that ended any remaining hope that she might still be out there somewhere. In the decades since, the investigation has gone down a number of different paths, including false confessions and possible connections to other murders in the area. But when you strip all of that away and go back to the earliest days of the investigation, there are details that seem much more significant with the benefit of hindsight.
