    "Lyrical Leaps and Bounds" with Taylor Kurta

    Taylor Kurta is an award-winning singer/songwriter, certified music therapist, and PhD candidate at the University of Waterloo. A SSHRC Doctoral Fellow and recipient of the Canada's Walk of Fame/RBC Emerging Artist Mentorship Prize, her research develops collaborative songwriting methods with people living with dementia to challenge stigma and promote inclusion. She currently teaches at the University of Toronto Scarborough, where she focuses on music and health in community and medical contexts. Across everything she does, Taylor’s perspective is really grounded in seeing music not just as a therapeutic tool, but as a creative and relational practice that can be used for social justice. Kat is a leader in the field and a passionate advocate for music therapy.  Kat’s wide ranging experience spans clinical practice with a variety of populations, keynote presentations at conferences, team-building drum circles for Fortune 500 companies, and entrepreneurial mentorship. Kat ran a private practice for 12 years in San Diego, and now mentors creative business owners in scaling their businesses to break free from the starving artist mindset. Kat is the founder of Music Therapy Ed, a fantastic resource for music therapy continuing education.     "From the Ground Up" with Ryan Judd

    Ryan Judd is a board-certified music therapist, guitarist, composer, and mindfulness educator with more than 25 years of experience helping neurodivergent children and adults, as well as the families who support them. He is the founder of The Rhythm Tree, a music therapy practice and online resource devoted to the therapeutic use of music. As a composer and recording artist, Ryan creates calming instrumental music for stress relief, sleep, meditation, and anxiety reduction, and his recordings have been streamed more than 420 million times. His work brings together music therapy, mindfulness, and practical tools that support calm, connection, and emotional regulation. He is also the co-founder of Cool Koala, a guided bedtime meditation app and Alexa skill for children with ADHD and anxiety, and he is currently developing Mindful Roots, a resource for parents of children with ADHD.     "Let's get together" with Nicola Oddy

    Nicola Oddy has been a certified music therapist in Canada for over 40 years (since 1985!). She is a registered psychotherapist, supervisor, and professor at both Concordia University and Carleton University. Nicola has served our music therapy community as president of the Canadian Association of Music Therapists, journal reviewer, proceedings editor, committee member, conference coordinator, among many other contributions. Nicola's main area of interest is the use of voice in music therapy and the role of place in our perceptions of self, the world around us, and our community. Her PhD research focuses on the use of improvisational singing in Environmental Vocal Exploration.  Nicola is part of the “Team behind the dream” for the upcoming Inspiration Symposium, taking place in Perth Ontario from October 2-4. This is an event organized by a community of music therapists who hope to create an experience that brings us to the heart of our practice. Presentations will be at least 50% experiential and leave participants with hands-on practical applications and ideas to inspire their practice. She offers shame-free money management support for solo-entrepreneurs and wears her therapist hat to help her clients navigate financial stress and money-related trauma that can arise along the way.  Jodi is the owner of WNC Asheville Music Therapy, a private practice based in North Carolina. She has experience across a wide range of settings, including inpatient mental health and addiction recovery.
