Abu Taubah

Abu Taubah is a respected American Islamic scholar, teacher, and founder of the Foundation of Islamic Knowledge and Seminary (FIKS). Born Marcus Dwayne Robertson in New York City, he was raised in a well-educated household. His mother was an English teacher and school principal, and his father was active in community leadership. These early influences shaped his drive for discipline, education, and service. At seventeen, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served in special operations. It was during his time in the military that he embraced Islam, beginning a transformative journey that would later lead him to deep traditional study. He went on to spend several years abroad in countries like Egypt and Mauritania, studying classical Islamic sciences including Qur’an memorisation, Arabic grammar, Hadith methodology, Aqidah, and Fiqh. He received ijāzahs from recognized scholars and returned to the U.S. to teach. Abu Taubah later established FIKS as a platform for accessible Islamic learning, offering both online and in-person programs. He is known for his structured teaching style, clarity in conveying foundational knowledge, and a strong focus on spiritual development. His Ramadan and Qur’anic reflection series are particularly well received, drawing a global audience. Despite facing legal challenges in 2011, which gained significant public attention, Abu Taubah remained committed to education and community building. Today, he continues to teach, mentor students, and offer guidance through FIKS. His legacy lies in his ability to fuse discipline, sincerity, and classical knowledge in a way that resonates with diverse audiences, especially youth and seekers of authentic Islamic understanding.
