When Did Friendships become so Hard & Expensive?! | According to B

➜ Subscribe to The B Word here: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheBWord?su... ✰ ABOUT ✰ This one is close to my heart. In this episode, I sit down with two of my closest friends, Maliaka and Tshegetso, for a real and honest conversation about what friendship looks like in adulthood- the beautiful, the hard, and the in-between.  We grew up watching rom-coms where the “best friend” character always had it all figured out, but real life doesn’t look like that. Between work, money, growing responsibilities, and trying to show up for ourselves, friendship can start to feel… complicated. So, we decided to talk about it–the distance that sometimes creeps in, the moments we’ve drifted, and the ways we’re learning to hold space for each other now that life isn’t as simple as it used to be. We also dive into: Why friendship feels harder as we get older.  The difference between drifting apart and simply growing up.  How money can shift the dynamic between friends. What showing up looks like in this season of our lives. Why sisterhood still matters-maybe now more than ever. ✰ TIMESTAMPS✰ 00:00 - Coming Up 00:43 - The best friend character in rom coms 03:36 - Introducing Maliaka & Tshegetso 05:27 - The girls meet cute stories  10:47 - Dilemma 1: Why is friendship so hard? 12:38 -The challenges’s of friendship now vs in the early 20’s 20:28 - Maliaka & Tshegetso’s response to the dilemma 27:34 - What the girls miss about friendship then vs what they value now 32:29 - Dilemma 2: When money changes friendship. 33:38 - Maliaka and Tshegetso’s response to the dilemma 41:30 - How necessary is it to be transparent about finances with friends? 49:21 -The title and genre of the movie that Maliaka & Tshegetso are casting Bokang in 52:23 - The post credit scene  55:22 - Afterthoughts ✰ SOCIAL MEDIA ✰ Bokang ➜ Instagram: @sheisbokang-https://www.instagram.com/sheisbokang  ➜ Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sheisbokang    The B Word ➜ Instagram: @thebword_za -https://www.instagram.com/thebword_za  ➜ Tik Tok: @thebwordza https://www.tiktok.com/@thebword_za  ✰ LISTEN ON ✰  Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0XnqZ7b... Changing My Life By Living Like A Rom-Com Main Character

What would your life look like if it was the opening scene of a rom-com? For me, that question went from a fleeting thought to a full-on experiment. In this very first episode of According to B: Rom-Com Edition, I share how I decided to flip the script on my own life and start living with main character energy. From childhood weekends spent at the movies, to being raised on the glossy promises of early 2000s romantic comedies, I talk about the unrealistic expectations they planted in us and the reality check of what 30 actually looks like. Spoiler alert: no magazine corner office, no perfect meet-cute, just a lot of Netflix, Uber Eats, and scrolling LinkedIn.But then came the shift: what if the only thing standing between side character energy and leading lady energy was audacity? Inspired by the bold, sometimes delusional choices of rom-com heroines like Jenna Rink, Eva Dandridge, and Elle Woods - I decided to create my own plot twist. Thus, The Rom-Com Experiment was born.In this episode, I break down what it means to give yourself permission to dream again, why audacity is the bridge between who you are and who you want to be, and how to start taking those baby steps toward a life you don’t just love, but actually live.Plus, I share voice notes from you—the community—about your own rom-com opening scenes and audacious dreams, and we dive into lessons on romanticizing the everyday, saying yes to the scary stuff, and daring to believe in possibilities again. This is the start of a new chapter, not just for me, but for all of us. So grab your popcorn, your notebook, maybe even your favorite lip gloss, and let’s step into the role we were meant to play: the heroine of our own stories.✰ TIMESTAMPS✰00:00 - Intro00:31 - How the world of movies and TV influenced my childhood01:21 - The early 2000’s rom com era 02:28 - Realistic check-in on my life05:02 - The active re-write of my life07:39 - The rom-com experiment10:51 - Having audacity 12:15 - Listener's dispatch 1: Dealing with disappointment 15:53 - Listener's dispatch 2: Finding the courage to take a leap18:03 - Listener's dispatch 3: The audacious creative entrepreneur18:47 - Listener's dispatch 4: Unapologetically bold21:49 - Follow my rom-com(ish) series on my personal social media 22:21 - Outro ✰ SOCIAL MEDIA ✰Bokang➜ Instagram: @sheisbokang-https://www.instagram.com/sheisbokang ➜ Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sheisbokang The B Word➜ Instagram: @thebword_za -https://www.instagram.com/thebword_za ➜ Tik Tok: @thebwordza https://www.tiktok.com/@thebword_za ✰ LISTEN ON ✰ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0XnqZ7b...Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Castbox: https://castbox.fm/channel/id5426930?...✰ BUSINESS INQUIRIES ✰E-mail: hello@thebwordmedia.com
