Shelby Estocado - More Movement as an Adaptive Athlete
Shelby is a superstar athlete. That hasn't changed despite a few changes to how she experiences sports. Shelby experienced a life-changing accident on February 23, 2020, at Lee Canyon near Las Vegas, breaking her sternum and T-6 vertebrae resulting in a severe spinal cord injury and paralyzing her from the chest. Shelby was active before her accident, and she became more involved in sports after her accident.

7. Landon McGauley - Adaptive Mountain Bike Ambassador
Landon broke his back in July 2010 while competing on his mountain bike. After rehabilitation at GF Strong in Vancouver, British Columbia, he did not waste any time returning to activities like adaptive skiing, biking, and surfing. This episode focuses on Landon's deep love for mountain biking, a sport he pursues with blood and sweat. Adaptive mountain biking (aMTB) allows Landon to express his creativity on the mountain while providing freedom, independence, and mobility. Mountain biking is dangerous and physically demanding.
Furthermore, he is part of Bowhead's Sports Development Team, "advocates for equity and inclusion, and simply enjoys sharing our experiences with others." Catch up with Landon this summer when he races in the 2022 Dunbar Downhill Summer Series. It's an event you don't want to miss. Enjoy the episode.

Ryan said, "It's getting hard to walk, but with a kite, I can fly." - North Kite Boarding.
He is super rad, adventurous, and a kind guy who is a role model. He has not let Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is, a disorder characterized by muscle weakness and wasting (atrophy), slow down his thirst for adventure. Ryan and his wife (Nicole) have been sailing and exploring the beautiful Polynesian Islands since 2014. 4. Andrea Brousseau - An Athletic Life with One Leg.
Andrea Brousseau is an incredible woman, athlete, friend, and wife. She is married to Caleb Brousseau, who was my first guest. Andrea is an above-the-knee amputee who is living her best life. Andrea was placed in an adaptive ski program when she was five, which she hated, had a fit, and had to be encouraged by candy to make it down the hill. It didn't go well, but she joined an excellent adaptive ski program at Mount Washington, which changed her trajectory and love for skiing. Then she got involved with the para-alpine ski team as a youth and teenager, which took her to Whistler. Her progression continued, and she started travelling around North America and Europe. Unfortunately, Andrea took a hard crash during a run in the 2010 games and suffered a severe concussion which stopped her from ski racing. Despite her crash, Andrea's love for skiing continued.
Fast forward to today, Andrea is shredding deep west coast powder at Shames Mountain Ski Area outside her hometown of Terrace, B.C., riding her eMTB and going on epic adventures with her husband.
Andrea discusses her time as an adaptive ski racer, the challenges of riding with one ski, learning how to ride an eMTB, losing a prosthetic leg, and the term "disability."

3. Kiana Clay - A Superstar Female Adaptive Athlete
Kiana Clay is a superstar adaptive athlete. She lost the use of her dominant arm (right) in a horrific dirt bike accident when she was 12 years old. The track conditions were wet and deep from rain the previous night. Kiana crashed on a practice lap, fell, and the rider had no time to react and landed on her neck. Kiana woke up in the hospital to heartbreaking news: complete paralysis of her dominant right arm. Kiana's disability did not stop her from chasing extreme sports. Kiana learned how to ride a dirt bike again after a seven-year hiatus. Snowboarding has been her primary focus since becoming the first adaptive female athlete to sign with Burton Snowboards. Her next hurdle is competing in the Paralympics in Beijing. Kiana's story is more profound than this description, so tune in to her episode and enjoy.
