Farm work manifests itself in a person’s identity. For Jeff Brekken, it ingrained in him the value of a hard day's work showing him the worth behind what he was doing. By the time he was 8 years old, Jeff could drive a truck and was working 60-hour weeks beside his family on the farm. At this point, he already understood his time, labor, and heart should be valued so he asked to be paid a fair sum – $1 an hour – for his work.

When Jeff wasn’t helping with the harvest, he was on the ice, commanding offense for his hockey team. The tactical skills and teamwork hockey nurtured in Jeff set him up to take on the real world by storm. However, when he reached that place later in life, Jeff realized that this hard work he used to derive value from wasn’t appreciated the way it should be at any standard 9-5 job.

He held onto the faith in himself that had been fermenting since childhood and set out to create a fulfilling future. In 2000, Jeff started a construction business and successfully built over a hundred single-family homes. That still wasn’t enough. He craved more and had the drive to go after it.

Combining his passion for helping others with his drive to not only do more but to always do better Jeff founded Blue Sky Benefit Solutions. Even that wasn’t enough so he started this show, Addicted to Winning, to bring you the insight, advice, and life lessons to help shape your view of your own self-worth, future and bring your aspirations within reach.

Everyone struggles in life, many struggle professionally, but we all have to struggle before we win. Get addicted to those struggles and get addicted to winning!

EP 133 -  Zach Swartzendruber, You Don’t Fail Unless You Quit
There are a lot of opinions about what it means to fail. For some of us, failing means quitting, and anything short of that shouldn't be considered failure. If you keep going, you are winning. You only lose when you give up, so don’t quit!

Benefits For Trucking is a 3rd Generation Benefits Services Agency that is hyper-focused on helping the Trucking Industry. Along with Swartzendruber Solutions, they can bring your company a unique and more engaging experience with employee benefits and your enrollment experience.

Why you can’t quit if you plan to get to win no matter what that means to you
The reality that industries can fluctuate and how you can weather the storm
How the rising cost of diesel fuel has affected the trucking industry thus affecting Zach’s business of dealing in benefits for truckers
Why outsourcing some of the more mundane tasks can help you focus and become more profitable using virtual assistants
Why Zach values his family and having experiences above all else and uses money as leverage to achieve those things
All of the different things that Zach can do to help those in the trucking industry

EP 131 - Jeff Brekken, Why Are We Not Asking Why?

EP 131 - Jeff Brekken, Why Are We Not Asking Why?
Why are we not asking why more often? Are we afraid of the answers? Many times understanding our internal motives as well as the motives of others will help us find our way through the struggle we’re currently enduring. Oftentimes we know that but are afraid to go there. But what if we weren’t?

    What You Will Learn
How thinking about your motivations can help get down to your purpose and the reason that you and everything else matter
Why do we tend to ask why a lot less as we get older and more experienced
How asking yourself why you do things can help you get through sticky situations
How asking why in your relationships can help you understand your partner’s motives and what they are looking for from you
How studying your own motives can help you be more vulnerable and why that is a good thing
Asking why helps get you through the hard times and find a way out
How asking why will help you find what is truly in your heart.

    Favorite Quote:
“You can’t achieve absolute 100% of your dreams when you are not vulnerable and when you are not asking yourself why.”

It’s absolutely true that no one can do it alone. There is NO WAY that you can be the best person that you can find for every single task in your business. Why you can’t be a loner and you need to surround yourself with good people
Why you need friends who view your relationship as a two-way street and aren’t afraid to give  back when you need them
Why you should reach out instead of getting frustrated when you encounter the parts of your business that you are less skilled at
The benefits of outsourcing over hiring to do things internally in your business
How exercising gets the blood flowing and gets your brain going and the ideas can start coming
Why you need to build a team of experts around you to help you do the things that don’t require your special touch

Amazing host. Outstanding podcast.

I've been on both sides of this microphone – as a guest and a loyal listener. If there's a Ph.D. in real talk, this podcast is the dissertation.

Jeff is a master of conversation. Doesn't just scratch the surface, digs deep, down into the marrow of the matter. I mean, I was there in the hot seat, and the probing questions had me unearthing insights about myself that I didn’t even know existed. Felt like therapy with better acoustics.

But it's not just introspection galore. He gives actionable tips and lessons you can apply before the episode even ends. Think of it as a Swiss Army knife for your brain—something useful at every turn.

As a listener, I can vouch for the variety of guests, too. From entrepreneurs to creators, every episode feels like an exclusive VIP party where smart people spill their secrets.

Bottom line: if you're not listening to "Addicted to Winning," you're basically saying, "Nah, success isn't for me." I mean, you do you, but I'd hit that subscribe button quicker than a cat on a mouse.

Mark your calendars, set your alarms, whatever you gotta do to remember—Get in on this; you'll thank me later.
