    A Moment To Pause: Lent: Monday 30th March 2026

    Welcome to a Moment to Pause. Good morning and welcome to our morning prayer as we continue Holy Week. A question we might ask ourselves as Holy Week unfolds is where am I as all these things happen to Jesus these days? Am I watching from a safe distance, protecting myself, or am I with Jesus? He offered each of us the same invitation “Take up your cross and follow me.” Am I still carrying my cross? In the gospel, we are offered two different ways of relating to Jesus; Judas, who was more concerned about himself and money, and Mary, who anointed Jesus’ feet with compassion and tenderness. Today let us ask ourselves, where are we as all the drama of Holy Week takes place? We pray for our own intentions and silence. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Lord, give us the strength to stay with you these days of Holy Week, as we carry our cross and follow you. Thank you for praying with us this morning. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    A Moment to Pause - Palm Sunday 29th March 2026 #God #faith #messiah #cross #lent #palmsunday

    Welcome everyone on this Palm Sunday to A Moment to Pause. We are now moving into Holy Week. After the crowds triumphant jubilation as Jesus enters Jerusalem, the same crowd that cheers him would days later demand his crucifixion. How fickle the nature of popular favour when expectations are not met. This week the mood changes and as solemness descends. What thoughts or feelings arise as you read the details of Christ's Passion? We might find similarities to suffering in our own lives. Maybe we have experienced being wrongly accused or judged. Perhaps people were unsupportive when we needed to be backed up. Or maybe we went along with the crowd and now feel guilty for not speaking out. In the presence of our loving God, what thoughts arise for you? Let us remain silent just for a moment, and stay with what is in our heart. With the centurion and the men with him who were keeping watch over Jesus at the Crucifixion, we say, truly, this was the Son of God. Lord Jesus, by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.     A Moment to Pause - Saturday 28th March, 5th Week of Lent #God #faith #messiah #cross #lent

    Welcome today to A Moment to Pause with Pauline Thomas. Following the raising of Lazarus, the Jewish leaders, fearing Roman intervention, plot Jesus's death. In today's gospel, John chapter 11 45 to 56, we hear Caiaphas saying, “You do not understand that it is better for you to have one man die for the people than to have the whole nation destroyed.” The end for Jesus is drawing close. So he goes to a friend about 20km northeast of Jerusalem, where the mountains descend into the Jordan Valley, remote desert area where Jesus is relatively safe. As Passover draws near, people are on the lookout for Jesus to appear. Instructions had been circulated that any sightings of Jesus were to be reported to the authorities so that they could arrest him. They're speculating, asking each other, what do you think? Will he not come to the feast? Jesus was to be the central character of this Passover and make it the most momentous Passover in history. As we prepare to enter into Holy Week, we pray that we may be light and safe harbour for those whose lives we touch, who are enduring the cross in their lives. Amen.     A Moment to Pause - Friday 27th March, 5th Week of Lent #God #faith #messiah #cross #lent

    Hello again, and welcome to A Moment to Pause. In today's Gospel John chapter 10, 31 to 42, Jesus is facing mounting hostility with Jewish leaders attempting to stone him for blasphemy. He speaks again of his own identity as being the one whom the father has consecrated and sent into the world. He says, I am the Son of God. If I do not perform my Father's works, do not believe me. But if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works so that you may realise and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father. Jesus's claim that he and the Father are one enrages his listeners, and they try to arrest him. To escape arrest, Jesus leaves the hostile environment of Jerusalem going to the place where John first baptised. There many come to him and believe in him. Tension and conflict over Jesus's identity as the true temple and Son of God is increasing, and while he is rejected by religious authorities, his message and works find root among others. Lord Jesus, may your message be rooted in our hearts and find a home in us. Glory be to the father, and to the son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.     A Moment to Pause - Thursday 26th March, 5th Week of Lent #God #faith #messiah #cross #lent

    Hello, everyone.  Welcome to a Moment to Pause today, the 26th of March. Today's gospel John Chapter 8 5:1-59 is focused on the identity of Jesus. A little earlier, he had presented himself as the light of the world, using at least three times the expression “I am”, that forcefully recalls God's name as it was revealed to Moses. Jesus goes on to say, “if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.” And he goes on to say that he has been sent by God, His father, to bring men and women freedom from sin and death. Jesus's words shocked those he was talking to, and even the reference to Abraham became a source of conflict. “Amen. Amen. I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” The Jews were outraged by the seeming blasphemy. They picked up stones to throw at him, but he hid and went out of the temple area. We see that at varying times, your disciples were also shocked, confused, and challenged by your words. We pray for open hearts and minds and a faith in you that sustains us at times when we are struggling to understand. Help us to see with new eyes. Help us to see as you see.

    A Moment To Pause: Short Audio Reflection on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord

    Welcome to a Moment to Pause. Today we celebrate the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord. It was a humble, hidden event. No one saw it. No one except Mary knew of it. When Mary said her "yes" to the angel's announcement, Jesus was conceived, and with him began the new era of human history. Mary, although disturbed by the difficulties this announcement presented her with, responded, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Mary's ‘yes’ mirrors that of Jesus's ‘yes’ in the Garden of Gethsemane, being overwhelmed with suffering, he prays that “if it is possible that this cup passed me by”, yet following this request, he prays nevertheless, “not as I will, but as you will.” Let us pray for the grace at times of difficulty, struggle, and uncertainty in our lives, to place our trust, as Mary did in the will of God for our lives.     A Moment to Pause - Tuesday 24th March, 5th Week of Lent #God #faith #messiah #cross #lent

    Hello. Welcome to a Moment to Pause with Pauline Thomas. In today's gospel passage, John chapter 8:21 to 30, Jesus is addressing the Pharisees and warning them that they will die in their sin because they reject and fail to believe that he is the “I am the promised Saviour.” He is using the divine name, “I am”, claiming equality with God. He highlights the division between his heavenly origin and their worldly unbelieving mindset, noting that his lifting up on the cross will reveal his unity with the Father. Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will realise that I am, and that I do nothing on my own. But I say only what the Father taught me. The one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone because I always do what is pleasing to him.” On hearing this, many came to believe in him. Lord Jesus, lifted up on the cross with a heart full of love for us. We are called to a personal response. We adore you, Lord Jesus Christ. For by your cross you redeemed the world. Thank you for joining us this morning.

    Hello everyone, and welcome to a Moment to Pause. I’m Pauline Thomas, and I’ll be with you through this coming week.In the gospel reading today, John chapter 8:1 to 11, we hear of the woman caught in adultery brought before Jesus by her accusers, who cited the scriptures to condemn her. Jesus, the Word of God, neither judges or condemns her, but completely rehabilitates the woman, restoring her hope and dignity. We learn from this story that God always leaves room for new beginnings, always offering and finding pathways that lead to freedom and new life. Through her encounter with Jesus, the woman's life is changed. Rather than being judged or condemned, she is given the opportunity to live a new and different life. God never stops believing in us and is always calling us to new life in Christ. Let us call to mind those we know of who have been stripped of their dignity who live in fear and suffer oppression at the hands of others. Bless us that we may live this day in a spirit of kindness, tolerance and compassion, that we be open to the new life you offer us day by day.
