Improving aged care service delivery is not a simple task. Over 6 episodes, Lidia Conci, Managing Director of AvantiCare, takes you on a journey of discovery to help understand the difference between passively growing old and proactively taking control, in order to age with purpose. The aim of this podcast is to help create a movement for purposeful ageing; because every person and their needs matter. The key to aging with purpose is education and preparation.     Why We Need To Rethink Aged Care with Carol Davy

    What's An Age Friendly City with Peter Tsokas

    When you use the infrastructure in your neighborhood or city do you think about how you would access places and services without the full use of your mind or body? The idea of an age-friendly city seems strange until you consider it deeply, it provides for people of all ages and defines an approach to serving every kind of person. Peter Tsokas is the CEO of the Unley Council in South Australia and understands ageing as well as anyone. Peter sits on multiple advisory boards for aged care, and under his management, the City of Unley has been recognised by the World Health Organisation for their work in providing for their aged community. Having engaged with many elderly citizens, Peter Tsokas believes ageing with purpose means living in a community that cares for your wellbeing and contributing to that community.     Understanding Neuroplasticity with Prof. Lorimer Moseley

    We often think that once we age to a certain point our brains start to fail us, and it’s true that the conductive sheathing around our neurons, myelin, is no longer produced after about 50 years old. But we can always shift myelin, we can always learn something new, no matter our age. An expert on neuroplasticity, the repurposing of grey matter, Lorimer Moseley is the Professor of Clinical Neurosciences and Chair of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia and has years of experience studying the brain. He has been a lifelong learner and advocates for everyone to enjoy learning throughout life and practice the changing of our cognitive strengths over time. Lorimer Moseley believes ageing with purpose means to be adaptive and intentional in our changes over time, especially with our minds and with our bodies.     Understanding The Science Of Pain with Prof. Lorimer Moseley

    Physical pain is something we wish to avoid, we fear oncoming pain and it can often seem insurmountable until it passes. So when pain defines our life, it stops us from doing the things we love and spending time with the people we love. Lorimer Moseley is the Professor of Clinical Neurosciences and Chair of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia and has spent his career researching the science of pain. His many discoveries have led him to publish books on pain and publish articles that help others understand and overcome pain. Lorimer Moseley believes ageing with purpose means to overcome the neurological barriers of pain that stop us from interacting with others and doing the things that give us meaning.
