Breaking up big tech will create surprising problems explains Bonnie Glick is the Director of the Krach Institute

The dark side of AI? Consequences of breaking up big tech? Bonnie Glick is the Director of the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue University, previously serving as the Deputy Administrator and COO of the U.S. Agency for International Development.   Glick expands on her concerns on AI development, why AI needs guardrails and who should enforce those guardrails. She also explains why concerns over AI are different from previous innovation concerns.
Glick also discusses why breaking up big tech isn't the answer. For one, big tech aren’t actually monopolies. But also, breaking up big tech give China the upper hand,
    weaken larger tech companies,
bar them from certain acquisitions and investments, stifle their ability to innovate, and require them to share user data with competitors including those in other countries.

Uh oh. AI for content marketing? Dr. Brad B. Miller, CEO of Puzzle on doing it right.

Uh oh. AI for content marketing? Dr. Brad B. Miller, CEO of Puzzle on doing it right.

The best content marketers in the world succeed because they are able to connect to other humans on a deeper, more meaningful level. So, wouldn't AI-powered content marketing just create more junk content? Not if you get the handoff right, explains Dr. Brad B. Miller, the CEO of Puzzle.  The content marketing battleground is won by being a better listener and creating content that cuts to the soul and addresses real human problems. Dr. Miller agrees AI can't do that (yet). But he does think AI can successfully master the part of content marketing all marketing hate: The repetition and endless tailoring of messages for various platforms.
Miller explains humans should be empowered to do their best work by listening to the audience and getting to know them deeply. They should not be wasting time fitting a LinkedIn message on Twitter or endlessly tracking A/B tests using various sentence structures.
Miller digs into the weeds on how carefully listening and watching people yields mountains of data, why human observation is data-rich, and how he can pick out innovators in a large group of people.

Teaching computers to see? Joseph Nelson CEO of Roboflow says if you start now, YOU are on the cutting edge.

AI development is going to grow so much, if you get started today you are one of the first in history to get involved. Joseph Nelson, CEO of Roboflow is teaching computers to see and gives us a look at where AI is heading and how computers are seeing the world around them.  Nelson discusses bias in computer vision, malicious use, his stance on using computer vision to track people, and what trends he sees in computer vision tech. He also discusses all the various uses for computer vision, many of which that aren't top of mind. The use cases he calls out are truly incredible.  One other fascinating aspect to the interview is Nelson's focus on human connecting. Even though Roboflow is an AI company, they strongly believe in face to face meetings, or what Nelson calls "high bandwidth connections." Roboflow actually gives their employees a "meet in person" budget. Their team is all remote, and combining budgets is allowed.  To see the show notes go to https://podcast.soar.com/uplift-humanity-podcast/joseph-nelson/ To index, transcribe and make 10 hours of video searchable by keyword go to soar.com/deepsearch

Such a powerful episode that takes a deeper look into some important issues related to challenges our students have when it comes to reading (learning to read, comprehension, and more).

Thanks to Dr. Hickman and the Plabook team for creating resources to support these issues and creating lifelong readers.
