A little bit late to an excellent game and discussion

I have started listening for the last couple of episodes of season one and having just listen to the first episode of season 2…
I am very very excited for the format of season two and plan on listening to each one as it comes out. Will be recommending this to the people that i practice Aikido with in Reno Nevada.

Great information

I love this podcast! The hosts keep the tone fresh and are willing to explore many aspects of this and other martial art, talking frankly about what aikido is and can do as well as what it isn’t and cannot do. Engaging, I always learn something and come away with renews excitement for all martial arts.

Thoughtful topics, but needs more depth.

I have experience with Aikido and looking to hear deep discussions about Aikido topic, culture, and maybe even a little on technique.

I did give this podcast a few tries on different topics and all had a very similar vibe. As my subject noted the topics were relevant and had a loot of opportunity for some good discussion.

I felt this group had a very narrow focus on Aikido and even their responses reflected on both criticism of others out in the Aikido world and shallow understanding of Aikido and traditional martial arts in general.

A small example was a discussion on why it was all the instructors responsibility to share the “whys” of all the techniques when teaching seminars. They eluded to that it can be unproductive in the dojo and not that you have to follow anyone blindly the techniques and short explanation by the instructor should be a good start. Then learn through practice.

Lastly, for a podcast on Aikido (and a martial art) I was surprised at the cursing and informal language used (like that old guy vs osensei). Not that you should not have and an open conversation with some discipline and deeper understanding of the culture and topics.

As started though I like the topic choices and fr a few other reviews the idea of brining on other teachers to have a respectful conversation to broaden the perspective.

Good luck, and do think it is a positive thing to continue to share Aikido and the path to practice and learning.
