    Presence - Joyful - John 15:1-13

    As we get older we can see the importance, if not the urgency, to savor every moment that we have been given by the Lord. The Christmas season brings a heightened awareness of this reality. In a season where we are going to find ourselves in lots of rooms and around lots of table...some we are excited about and some that we aren't so excited about...let us stop and ask what kind of presence we bring. As believers may we feel the calling and the delight to bring the Lord's presence to those we will be around. He has ordained those specific moments and individuals. In this series we will look at four traits of those who seemingly walk in a nearness to the Lord and so bless those in their company.   DNA Questions: John 15:1-11 Discover Why is the analogy of the vine and branches helpful when thinking about the fulness of joy? How does Jesus help us understand what "abide" means in this text? What does God's glory have to do with our joy?   Nurture Do you truly believe that you can do nothing without Jesus? How does the gospel empower us to "abide in His love"?   Act What does abiding in Jesus look like for you? What would change about your life if you lived believing you were beloved of God?

    Presence - Grateful - Psalm 107

What does it look like to "attend to these things"? What evidence do you have that the Lord is working redemptively in your life?   Act: What would it look like for you to be intentional about giving thanks to the Lord? What area of your life do you need to cry out to the Lord whose love is steadfast and enduring for deliverance?

In what ways does pride try to mimic humility in your life? Why is it so difficult to truly cast all our anxieties on Him?   Act What is one thing that would change about your week if you actually cast an anxiety upon the Lord? What is one practical way you could clothe yourself with humility towards someone this week?

Why is it significant that David declares that he has sinned against the Lord? What does it mean that the Lord had put away David's sin?   Nurture How do we become so blind to our own sin and brokenness? How does the gospel fuel us towards brokenness? How does the gospel heal us in brokenness?   Act If the Lord is near to the brokenhearted, what would it look like to pursue brokenness?

    1 Corinthians 15:50-58

    There is a truth given to us by Jesus that we need to believe. It’s actually to our advantage that Christ would go to the Father SO that the Spirit could be sent to us. The hope in this series would be that we would come to believe this as ardently as Jesus, Himself AND that we would long to know and enjoy all that we have in the Person and work of the Holy Spirit of God.   DNA Questions - 1 Corinthians 15:50-58 Discover Why is it important that Paul speaks of the Kingdom of God rather than "eternal life"? Is death swallowed up in victory? Why is it important that our labor is not in vain?   Nurture What "trumpets" have sounded in your life to wake you up and keep you "ready"? What does "victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" look like in your life? Is steadfastness a strength for you? Why or why not? How does the gospel produce this in our lives?   In what "work of the Lord" do you need to abound?

How does Paul answer the question? How does Paul connect the man of dust with the man of heaven?   Nurture Is there anything in your life that would point to the reality of resurrection after the death of something? Is the prospect of the resurrection body good news to you? Why or why not? Is there evidence in your life that you will indeed bear the image of the man of heaven? How is God bringing this about in your life?   Act What would it look like for you to begin pursuing inward renewal? Who in your life needs to hear about the good news of the resurrection?

    1 Corinthians 14:26-40

    Why does Paul give parameters for speaking in tongues and for prophesying? Why does Paul need to address the submission of women to their husbands in this text? Why does Paul need to remind these people (and us) that this is a command from the Lord?   Nurture: When are you most built up in the gatherings of the saints? Why do you think that is? Is a willingness to speak up or to be silent for the building up of the body the most difficult for you? Why? Why can we believe that the commands of God are ultimately for our good?   Act: How has God gifted you to build up His church? Is there any piece of obedience that the Spirit of God is calling you to? Why has it been such a struggle to submit?

    1 Corinthians 14:1-25

    Paul’s letter to the Corinthian church is a response to real questions by real people whom Paul knows and loves. 1 Corinthians is certainly a practical and theological answer to questions, but at its core, it is an example of shepherding a flock of sinners saved by grace. Answers are given, thoughts are expounded, and falsehoods are confronted with a heart that these people would experience grace and peace walking in the privilege that it is to be those called into the fellowship of Jesus Christ by the God of the universe.   DNA Questions - 1 Corinthians 14 Discover: What does it mean that we would pursue love, but earnestly desire the spiritual gifts? Why is a wartime analogy helpful for this topic of discussion in chapter 14? What does it mean to be mature in our thinking about all this?   Nurture: Do you desire the things of the Spirit? Why or why not? How does the gospel help us believe that the working of the Holy Spirit can be totally trusted in our life? Have you ever experienced a time when the Spirit worked unprecedented "thankfulness" in your life?   Act: How does a theology of the Holy Spirit change your willingness to obey the Word of God? Is there something that the Spirit of God is calling you to do that would take you out of your comfort zone and display His perfect power in your weakness?
