    The Peace Found in Surrender

In this 8th and final episode of our Anxiety series, Paul and Rebecca Turner turn to the most profound example in all of Scripture — Jesus Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane. As Jesus prepared to endure the suffering of the cross, Scripture describes Him as “sorrowful,” “very heavy,” “unto death,” and in “agony.” These are not shallow emotions. They reveal deep anguish, intense emotional suffering, and severe mental struggle as Christ faced the full weight of what lay before Him. And yet, He was completely sinless. This powerful moment forces us to confront an important truth: anxiety itself cannot be sin. Jesus experienced deep emotional anguish without ever ceasing to be perfectly holy. Anxiety is not moral failure — it is a human emotion that reveals what we do with our fears, burdens, and pain. In this episode, Paul and Rebecca discuss the critical question every anxious soul must answer: Will anxiety drive us away from God, or into surrender to Him? Our natural response to fear and uncertainty is often control. We want to manage outcomes, protect ourselves, and hold tightly to what feels secure. But in Gethsemane, Jesus models a different path. In the middle of overwhelming anguish, He surrendered completely to the will of the Father: “Not my will, but thine, be done.” Through Christ’s example, we learn that true peace is not found in controlling circumstances, but in surrendering ourselves fully to God. It is in surrender that we discover “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,” a peace that keeps both heart and mind through Christ Jesus. As this series comes to a close, Paul and Rebecca reflect on the many faces of anxiety seen throughout Scripture — fear, grief, burnout, loneliness, spiritual attack, emotional pain, and suffering — and remind listeners that God meets anxious hearts with grace, truth, compassion, and peace. Join us for this final episode as we look to Gethsemane and learn how surrender leads us into the all-consuming grace of God.

Jeremiah and the Anxiety of Faithfulness

In Episode 7 of our Anxiety series, Paul and Rebecca Turner examine the life of Jeremiah and the anxiety that can come from faithful obedience to God. Jeremiah lived among people who knew the truth, yet refused to stand courageously for it. While others compromised, stayed silent, or sought acceptance, Jeremiah was compelled to speak the Word of God no matter the cost. His obedience isolated him from the king of Judah, from the priests and false prophets, and even from the people he longed to help. Jeremiah’s life teaches us a difficult but necessary truth: sometimes doing everything right can still leave us feeling lonely, misunderstood, rejected, and anxious. In this episode, Paul and Rebecca discuss how obedience to God can deepen feelings of isolation. Jeremiah carried enormous emotional weight as he watched a nation reject truth while he faithfully proclaimed it. Yet Scripture also shows us that emotional honesty is not spiritual failure. Jeremiah openly expressed grief, sorrow, frustration, fear, and exhaustion before God, and God did not abandon him for it. Instead, God continually reminded Jeremiah of what was true. This episode explores the importance of bringing anxious thoughts honestly before the Lord instead of hiding them behind spiritual appearances. When anxiety clouds our perspective, we often need to be reminded again of God’s character and His promises. Jeremiah’s story shows us that God comforts faithful servants in lonely places and sustains those who continue walking in obedience even when no one else understands. Paul and Rebecca also discuss how anxiety can become a tool God uses to deepen our dependence upon Him. The very obedience that increases pressure and loneliness can also drive believers into deeper intimacy, trust, and communion with God. If you have ever felt isolated because of your convictions, burdened by standing for truth, or emotionally exhausted from trying to obey God faithfully, Jeremiah’s life is a powerful reminder that you are not alone. Join us as we learn how God meets anxious and lonely hearts with truth, comfort, and His all consuming grace.

Job and Paul: Spiritual Attack and Sustaining Grace

In Episode 6 of our Anxiety series, Paul and Rebecca Turner take a deep look into the life of Job and the painful reality of spiritual attack. Job’s suffering was not random. Behind the scenes, Satan was allowed to unleash devastation upon Job’s life — attacking his family, health, stability, emotions, and relationships. The weight of grief and loss became so overwhelming that Job eventually despaired of life itself. Even the relationship between Job and his wife became strained under the crushing pressure of prolonged suffering. Yet in the middle of confusion, fear, sorrow, and anxiety, Job clung to one unshakable truth: “I know that my redeemer liveth.” In this episode, Paul and Rebecca discuss the reality that spiritual warfare is not imaginary. Sometimes anxiety is intensified by genuine spiritual attack, discouragement, temptation, oppression, and seasons of suffering that seem impossible to understand. Like Job, believers may find themselves asking difficult questions while trying to reconcile pain with the goodness of God. The episode also draws powerful comparisons between the spiritual attacks experienced by Job and Paul the Apostle. Both men endured deep affliction. Both wrestled through weakness and suffering. Both were humbled by what God allowed in their lives. And both emerged from their trials with greater dependence upon the Lord and clearer understanding of His grace. Through Job’s story, listeners are reminded that suffering can either harden the heart or humble it before God. Job’s trial ultimately changed the direction of his life, deepened his understanding of God, and refined his faith in ways comfort never could. If you are walking through a season where life feels spiritually heavy, emotionally draining, or painfully confusing, this episode offers biblical hope that even in spiritual warfare, God remains faithful. Join us as we explore the reality of spiritual attack, the endurance of faith, and the sustaining hope found in our living Redeemer through His all-consuming grace.

    Elijah: When Fear Follows Faithfulness

In Part 5 of our Anxiety series, Paul and Rebecca Turner explore the life of Elijah and one of the clearest biblical pictures of emotional exhaustion, burnout, anxiety, and depression. After incredible victories in ministry, Elijah finds himself emotionally drained and spiritually depleted. When Jezebel threatens his life, the mighty prophet flees into the wilderness, collapses beneath a juniper tree, and asks God to let him die. The man who once stood boldly before kings now sits alone in despair. But instead of rebuking Elijah harshly, God lovingly ministers to him. In this episode, Paul and Rebecca discuss the compassionate “protocol” God gives Elijah — a pattern of care that still speaks powerfully to anxious and exhausted people today. Before God addresses Elijah’s ministry, He addresses Elijah himself. Elijah is given rest, food, water, quietness, and time alone with the Lord. God restores him physically, emotionally, and spiritually before sending him back into faithful service. This episode examines how anxiety and depression are often intensified by exhaustion, isolation, spiritual depletion, and prolonged stress. It also reminds us that caring for the body and mind is not separate from spiritual health. God created human beings holistically, and His care for Elijah demonstrates His deep compassion for every part of our lives. Paul and Rebecca also discuss the importance of slowing down long enough to hear from the Lord again. In the stillness of the wilderness, Elijah discovers that God had not abandoned him, forgotten him, or finished using him. If you have ever felt emotionally worn down, spiritually empty, or overwhelmed by life and ministry, Elijah’s story is a reminder that God meets weary people with sustaining grace, restoring truth, and compassionate care. Join us as we learn how God revives exhausted souls and teaches us to live in His all-consuming grace.

When the Soul Frets — Hannah and the Weight of Anxiety

In Part 4 of our Anxiety series, Paul and Rebecca Turner examine the life of Hannah and the deep emotional struggle she carried for years because of her inability to have children. Hannah’s story reveals what we call Long-Term Contributor #2 to anxiety: internal, emotional, and deeply personal issues that must be confronted with God. Over time, Hannah’s grief and anxiety grew heavier. The pain was constant, personal, and visible. Her husband tried to comfort her, yet even sincere comfort could not remove the burden in her soul. At the same time, the words and actions of her adversary continually reopened the wound, turning private pain into daily anguish. Eventually, Hannah reached a breaking point — and a surrender point. In one of the most honest prayers recorded in Scripture, Hannah pours out her heart before God with deep emotion and transparency. Her prayer was not polished, rehearsed, or superficial. It was the cry of a burdened soul seeking the Lord. Even when Eli misunderstood and wrongly labeled her because of her visible emotions, Hannah responded with humility and truth. In this episode, Paul and Rebecca discuss how anxiety is often far deeper than outward circumstances. Sometimes anxiety grows slowly through years of unresolved grief, disappointment, fear, or emotional wounds. But rather than seeing anxiety as failure, believers can learn to see it as an opportunity to surrender fully to God and experience His sustaining grace. This episode is also a challenge to those who minister to hurting people. Are we helping anxious souls with compassion and understanding, or are we deepening wounds through assumptions, labels, and shallow answers? Join us as we learn from Hannah’s life how to bring our deepest struggles honestly before the Lord and rest in His all consuming grace.

When Fear Meets the Call of God: Finding Confidence in the Lord Through the Anxiety of Gideon

Welcome back to the All Consuming Grace Podcast with your hosts, Paul Turner and Rebecca Turner for another episode in our series on anxiety. In episode one, we learned that misplaced confidence will always produce instability. When our confidence rests in circumstances, finances, culture, other people, or even ourselves, anxiety is never far behind. But when our confidence is rooted in the Lord, we discover a peace that is not dependent upon what is happening around us. In this second episode, we turn to the life of Gideon — a man hiding in a winepress while the world around him was collapsing. Israel was living in spiritual rebellion. God’s people were no longer living consistently with who they were called to be. The culture around Gideon was marked by idolatry, fear, oppression, instability, and conflict. The Midianites consumed the land’s resources, food shortages were common, and families lived in uncertainty. Even Gideon’s own father had embraced Baal worship. Everywhere Gideon looked, there were reasons to be anxious. And then God called him. Gideon’s response sounds strikingly familiar to many anxious hearts today. Instead of confidence, he offered excuses. He questioned where God had been. He focused on his weakness. He pointed to his poor family. He reminded the Lord that he was the least in his father’s house. His confidence was misplaced because his eyes were fixed on circumstances instead of the presence of God. Yet what is so beautiful in this account is not merely Gideon’s fear — it is God’s response to it. The Lord did not crush Gideon for being anxious. He lovingly met him in the middle of it. God reminded Gideon of three life-changing truths: who the Lord is, who Gideon was in God’s eyes, and that the Lord was with him. As Christians, this passage teaches us not only how God deals with anxious people, but also how we should minister to others who are struggling with fear and instability. The answer to anxiety is not found in pretending circumstances are easy; it is found in learning to see them through the presence and promises of God. Join us as we walk through the winepress with Gideon and discover how the Lord transforms fearful people into faithful servants through His all-consuming grace.
