In today’s episode I talk about the detrimental effects of perfectionism on mental health and performance, particularly among girl athletes. We’ll discuss the pressure society places on individuals, especially girl athletes, to meet these high standards.
You’ll learn the importance of shifting your mindset, focusing on giving 100% effort rather than striving for perfection. I also share tangible strategies to counteract perfectionism, such as embracing mistakes and giving yourself permission to be imperfect.

Great advice!
My daughter’s and I love to listen to this podcast together. We often listen on our long commutes to practices. The topics of the episodes are so relevant and the info has enabled the start of great discussions between us and given us a language to talk about the complex emotions competing brings to the surface. Even my daughter’s soccer coach has noticed a difference in her attitude and toughness. We are very grateful for your heart Shay!
Wow
I can’t say anything but wow! I am the team manager if my daughter’s 11U soccer team and I have shared so many of these with the parents. The “pre-match anxiety” and “what to do before, during and after a match as a parent” podcasts are great jumping off pieces. Those aren’t the actual names, but go listen to those. We can all learn so much as parents of the game and being able to hear from someone else helps you put yourself in perspective. I have changed myself so much and I just love these podcasts.
So good, insightful healing as an adult and perspective as a parent!
I LOVE listening to shay. She blows my mind thinking through how I show up for myself and work through my childhood while making sure I’m showing up in the best way for my kids. My kids are playing sports yet but I actually love I found this now because I will be so much more prepared and equipped to support them when they do pursue their interests. Hurry listen everyone needs shay!
