am&courageous conversations is all about digging into the lives of those who are prepared to live courageously.   It’s about those who are prepared to use their voice to benefit others and to make a difference in the world. It will examine the impact on those who use that courage to put themselves out there in a relentless news cycle where cancel culture dictates and where the online space can be toxic and pervasive.   What’s the downside? What’s the payback? What’s the outcome they want?  Are they capable of getting the results?
These people are leaders but they may not be in charge of anyone. They’re leading people with their conviction, courage and ‘cojones’ to make a better world.
Who are these people? Amanda Millar finds out in a provocative podcast that promises honesty, humour, insights, entertainment and inspiration.

The Outsider Who Got In | Linda Clark

The Outsider Who Got In | Linda Clark

Linda Clark is a force. Her careers (plural) straddle law, broadcasting and journalism. She’s a multi-multi-hyphenate; journalist, advocate, advisor, litigator, facilitator, mentor.
In short, if there's a mess to be cleaned up, she’s the go-to.
Whip smart and widely respected, Linda is an award winning journalist. She’s been TVNZ’s political editor, RNZ’s Nine to Noon host, a television presenter, frequent media panellist and sought after political commentator. She left journalism (but do you ever really?) to be a lawyer and now leads a team as a Partner at Dentons Kensington Swan.
She survived the newsrooms of the 80s and 90s where it wasn’t unheard of to have typewriters thrown across the room and as a lawyer she still has men talk over her in meetings.
She tells Amanda Millar what she’s scared of, if AI will take over newsrooms and the advice she has for everyone going through something.

Bringing animated solutions to life | Sir Ian Taylor

Bringing animated solutions to life | Sir Ian Taylor

Sir Ian Taylor is in his 70s but the ageless innovator is still a global Peter Pan when it comes to business and technology.
Rather than rely on Neverland, Sir Ian has created his own magic in life. He went from a singer in a band to a TV presenter. Then he really started soaring when he pioneered new technology to make graphic animations for the world’s most prestigious sports, including the oldest sporting competition, The America’s Cup.  If you watch sports, you’ll be watching Sir Ian’s work.
He’s now focussed on the next generation and how Aotearoa can find solutions to not only our biggest problems but the world’s as well, which will take more than fairy dust.

From Neon G Strings to Purse Strings | Angela Meyer

From Neon G Strings to Purse Strings | Angela Meyer

Angela Meyer’s all about change. But the one constant in her life is being revolutionary and a little outrageous. She doesn’t wear a cape (but has been known to wear a neon g-string) in her tireless battle to lift up the women of Aotearoa.
Her life reads a bit like the plot of an action film…from cheating death on the high seas in a yacht with a toddler to peddling home STI kits, where the horny over 50s are a surprising, untapped but voracious market.
She’s also done ground breaking research on the emotional, physical and financial status of Kiwi women and made real changes for womens’ health by getting the Government to commit for the first time to making sure all women live longer lives in good health.
She’s written books and is making sure your mum, daughters, sisters, nieces and wives know the power of money with a new online programme in financial literacy for women.

The woman whose courage will save other women | Sophie Brown

The woman whose courage will save other women | Sophie Brown

This is deeply personal, for both women in this conversation.
In 2023, brothers Danny & Roberto Jaz were jailed for offences including drink spiking, sexual violation and rape centred around Christchurch bar Mama Hooch. In 1998, the year Sophie Brown was born, host Amanda Millar exposed a sordid and perverse serial abuser in Christchurch who used power, access and status to abuse his victims.
    Why has nothing changed?
Nine of the many women attacked at Mama Hooch gave evidence in court. One chose to go public.
Sophie Brown shares her inspiring story of how she’s choosing to live her life after the sexual assault that changed her life forever.
Listeners should be aware that the events and themes that have led to this podcast are distressing, however in this conversation there is no detailed account of those events.
