    Empowering Female Athletes - A Coach's Perspective on Development (With Nolan Horbach)

    Currently the Head Coach of the Female U18AAA Battlefords Sharks (2023), Nolan was named Coach of the Year in the Saskatchewan Female U18AAA Hockey League for the 2023-2024 season. Renowned for his exceptional skating and skills instruction and forward-thinking approach toward development, Nolan excels in communicating and connecting with his players. His coaching philosophy is grounded in providing a nurturing environment emphasizing skill repetition, problem-solving, and ongoing feedback to foster player success. In this episode, Nolan and I chat on all things female athletes.     From Athlete to Individual: Navigating Life Beyond Sport

    In this episode I share the importance of detaching from the identity of our sport. So much of our life as athletes is based around hitting our potential in sport. We live, eat, and breathe for it, but then inevitably, it ENDS. Being prepared or having the acceptance of that can be crucial in your journey. Too often we put at the pressure on ourselves in the sport days, that we forget we aren't solely our sport. If we don't recognize that it can not only add to decreased performance, but can make life following sport very challenging. Being prepared and making decisions throughout that are in alignment with you and your greatest purpose can help you in navigating through all of it.

    Reflecting on Life Lessons of Sport

    In this episode I share my experience of getting to go back and play competitive hockey for the first time in 12 years. I get personal on that experience itself, but also what lessons and memories came up in being on the ice and in the environment again. We go off and live our lives after our sport ends, and some of us are fortunate enough to stay involved in sport in some way shape or form. I share how important it is to channel that competitive nature and then also jump on opportunities to find that again. I was on a high in recording this episode in probably having the MOST fun competing again than I ever have in the past.
