The Secret Life of a Pilot

In aviation, not everything is as it seems. Behind the polished uniforms and calm voices, pilots are often seen as the ultimate steady partners — respected, reliable, and trustworthy. But what happens when the image doesn’t match the reality? In this episode of The Red Eye, we follow Evie on a dreamy layover in the Maldives, where she meets Greg, a first officer whose seemingly perfect relationship with the flight manager sparks admiration — and envy. But when chance encounters and small cracks in the story begin to show, Evie learns that Greg is leading a very different life than the one she imagined. From romantic illusions to double lives, and even a side hustle smuggling counterfeit handbags, this story peels back the layers of what really goes on beyond the flight deck. The Secret Life of a Pilot is a cautionary tale about trust, appearances, and the hidden worlds that crew sometimes discover behind the glamour of flying. After the Landing - An Aviation Mental Health Story

At The Red Eye, we tell true stories from the skies and the ground. They’re funny, heartbreaking, and sometimes downright shocking - but today’s story is different. It isn’t just about a dramatic in-flight medical emergency. It’s about the emotional toll it left behind, and what happens when the strength we’ve relied on for so long suddenly cracks. The crew member who donated this story, a seasoned flight attendant and cancer survivor, has weathered countless red-eyes. But when a passenger collapsed mid-flight on her London–Nigeria route, she found herself alone in the galley, protecting the cockpit, caring for an unwell passenger, and carrying the impossible weight of life-or-death decisions she wasn’t trained to make. The real turbulence came later, alone in a hotel room far from home. For crew, the unspoken rule is simple: smile, stay composed, and leave your problems at the door. But the truth is that behind the uniform, flight attendants carry the same struggles as anyone else - grief, illness, financial stress, loneliness. And sometimes, the pause button we press during service can’t hold it all back. This episode sheds light on the hidden mental health struggles faced by aviation professionals and reminds us that no one, no matter how strong, is immune to reaching their limit. It’s a story about resilience, vulnerability, and the courage it takes to finally say, “I’m not okay.” Resources & Helplines If you or someone you know is struggling, please know that support is available: U.S. — 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 anytime, day or nightUK — Samaritans: Dial 116 123 for freeAustralia — Lifeline: Dial 13 11 14India — AASRA: +91-98204 66726SSend us a text! Bursting the Bubble - Flying during the Pandemic

pandemic was the strangest time in aviation history. Planes sat idle, airports fell silent, and crew were told to follow ever-changing rules that often didn’t make much sense. But even in the middle of it all, some flights kept operating — and the people onboard kept living, laughing, and sometimes breaking the rules. In this episode of The Red Eye, we follow Ruby and her fellow crew on a surreal trip from London to Hyderabad. Hazmat suits, social bubbles, hotel lockdowns, and… an unexpected poolside encounter with a group of handsome strangers. What started as another restricted layover quickly turned into the kind of night no one would forget — and one that would land the crew in very real trouble when they got home. A raw, funny, and honest glimpse into what it meant to fly through the height of the pandemic. Are Cabin Crew Just a Number...?

In this powerful episode of The Red Eye, we share Ben’s story — a crewmember whose experience on a routine London to New York flight changed the course of his career. After a passenger medical emergency at 35,000 feet, Ben and his colleagues did everything in their power to save a life. But what stayed with him most wasn’t just the tragedy itself — it was how his company handled the aftermath. Like many flight attendants, Ben often felt like just a number in a massive system. And when the support he needed wasn’t there, it took a toll on his mental health and ultimately led him to walk away from a job he once loved. His story is a raw and honest look at what happens when frontline crew don’t feel seen, and the real cost of missing that human connection in aviation. While the industry has made real progress in mental health awareness and support, Ben’s journey is a reminder of why it matters so deeply, and what can be lost when it’s overlooked. This is an episode about courage, care, and change. It’s for anyone who’s ever felt unseen in their job — and for the aviation community striving to do better for those who give so much of themselves in service of others. The hilarious Dylan from The Grumpy Stew Podcast is here to talk about all the things that piss him off about the aviation industry.... Passengers that don't listen, airlines that mess you around - his brilliantly dry humor takes him around the world and we're excited to chat with him about why he still works as an international flight attendant - even though it drives him nuts! Night Flight Vigilance

As cabin crew are required to be able to react quickly in emergency situations on the aircraft, they are always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary. Whether that is a passenger who has had too much alcohol, a passenger acting suspiciously, someone who may be feeling unwell, or even something wrong with the aircraft. Flight attendants are always vigilant and ready to deal with anything thrown at them. Just perhaps not more than one emergency on the same flight! In today's true story, we hear of one incredible crew member, who helped save the life of not just one person, but perhaps the whole airplane! The Gift that Bit Back - A Flight Attendant's Horror Story

I'm not even sure where to start with the synopsis of this one.... It's a story so unbelievable that our poor writer has a very questionable search history since researching for this one. A cabin crew member is happy with her glamorous life, and glamorous sugar daddy boyfriend who spoils her with gifts. Until the day she wakes up feeling terrible and makes a horrific discovery.
