    When I hear the word surrender, I usually think of someone giving themselves up after doing something wrong. It can sound like losing—losing freedom, losing control, losing the life they had before. But isn’t it interesting that some people meet Christ in prison and say that’s where they became truly free? Not because the walls disappeared, but because something inside them did. The weight, the running, the pretending—it started to break. And maybe surrender works that way for us too. There are things we hold on to because they feel familiar, comfortable, or safe, but they’re actually keeping us stuck. Sometimes the most freeing prayer we can pray is, “Lord, I give up. I can’t do this without You.” Because when we surrender to Him, He doesn’t lock us down—He sets us free. Scripture (NIV): John 8:36 — “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Reflection Questions: What am I holding on to that may be keeping me from freedom? Where do I need to stop trying to control the outcome?     There’s something powerful about a symphony before the music ever starts. The musicians are in place. The instruments are being prepared. The audience is waiting. And even before one note is played, something meaningful is already happening. It made me think about how often we only recognize life, purpose, or beauty once we can hear it or see it clearly. But God is often at work long before the “first note” reaches us. Before the sound, before the evidence, before the moment we can point to and say, “There it is,” He is already forming, preparing, and holding it all together. Maybe today is a reminder to pay attention to the quiet beginnings. The things God is shaping may not always be loud yet, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t alive with purpose.     Have you ever felt like you’re not quite ready to share your faith? I get that. It can feel awkward trying to bring it up in conversation, especially when you don’t know how people will respond. And sometimes it feels like you need some kind of special training before you’re allowed to speak up. But maybe sharing our faith is simpler than we make it. Think about little kids when they learn something new, they can’t wait to tell somebody. They’re not worried about saying it perfectly. They’re just excited to share what they’ve discovered. That can be us, too. We don’t have to have every answer. We can simply share what God has shown us, how He has helped us, and why He matters to us. We’re still learning, but we’re also already equipped. God can use a willing heart, and His message is powerful enough. Scripture (NIV): Acts 4:20 — “As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Reflection Questions: Where do I sometimes feel unqualified to share my faith? What has God done in my life that I can simply and honestly share?     The Shocking Advice I Was Given at an AA Meeting | Anchor Points | Ep. 57

    Years ago, while attending an AA meeting, someone gave me advice that completely caught me off guard. He told me I was too young to quit drinking and should go back out and enjoy life before returning later. Thankfully, I didn't listen. Looking back, I realize he viewed surrender as a loss. But what I discovered was the exact opposite. Letting go of the life that was hurting me wasn't a prison sentence. It was freedom. Sometimes the best thing we can do is refuse advice that pulls us away from God's direction. The old life may feel familiar, but Christ is always calling us into something better. Scripture (NIV): 2 Corinthians 5:17 — “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Reflection Questions: Is there something from my old life God is asking me to leave behind? Have I been listening to voices that pull me away from His plans?     I was absolutely convinced my husband had taken my car keys. Not 50% sure. Not 90% sure. 110% percent sure. The problem? He didn't have them. I had left them in the car. It's amazing how quickly we jump to conclusions. We fill in missing details, assume motives, and build entire stories before we know the facts. We've all done it. The challenge is remembering that we're often seeing only part of the picture. Grace grows when humility grows. And humility starts with recognizing that sometimes we may not know as much as we think we do. Scripture (NIV): James 1:19 — “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” Reflection Questions: When was the last time I jumped to a conclusion?     Most of us appreciate being recognized for our hard work. It feels good when someone notices the effort, time, and heart we've invested. But what happens when nobody notices? I found myself thinking about that while volunteering for a project that required many hours behind the scenes. Some of the work was visible. Most of it wasn't. And it reminded me of a question we all have to answer eventually: Who am I really doing this for? When we serve for applause, disappointment is never far away. But when we serve Christ, every act of faithfulness matters, even the ones nobody else sees. Scripture (NIV): Colossians 3:23-24 — “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Reflection Questions: How do I respond when my efforts go unnoticed? Am I serving for recognition or from obedience?     Everyone seems to be searching for happiness. We read books about it, listen to podcasts about it, and chase after it in a hundred different ways. Yet somehow it still feels just out of reach. Maybe the problem isn't that happiness is impossible to find. Maybe we're looking in the wrong places. Real joy has never been about having perfect circumstances. It's about having a secure foundation. Faith doesn't eliminate life's struggles, but it gives us something strong to stand on when those struggles come. That's why God's presence remains one of the greatest gifts we can ever receive.     I can't tell you how many times I've searched the entire house for my phone or keys only to discover they were in my hand the whole time. Somehow, I was so focused on looking that I missed what was already right in front of me. I think we do something similar with God's blessings. We pray, we wait, and we ask God to move. Meanwhile, He may already be providing the very thing we've been asking for. A friendship. An opportunity. A helping hand. A door opening that we never noticed. God often works through the people, places, and moments around us. So while we wait on Him, let's also keep our eyes open to how He may already be answering our prayers. Scripture (NIV): Psalm 121:1-2 — “I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Reflection Questions: What prayer have I been bringing to God lately? Could God already be providing part of the answer?
