Be Thankful This Isn't About Oppo v. Apple

Global phone nerds find it frustrating when they have to act thankful for all the choice they have when, in fact, market segmentation and fragmentation makes it nigh on impossible to enjoy all the bounty we've got. It's why an Oppo Find X8 Pro vs. iPhone 16 Pro Max comparison is impractical for us to produce — the audience cannot exist for such a thing. But we here at the Android Police podcast are thankful you're with us as Americans wrap up a holiday of gathering, feasting, and buying. This time around, we'll be chatting about how Google just can't get an Android tablet right, how the company might screw up its path forward on tablets, and, hey, why not throw an Android-based laptop in there? We'll also dive into some quick reviews of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Oppo Find X8 Pro. 04:33 | How the Tablet Turns The Google Pixel Tablet 2 isn't out yet, and it looks like the Pixel Tablet 3 might never beThe Pixel Tablet 2 may be cancelled, but we'll somehow still get a Pixel Tablet 3The Pixel Tablet 2's reported cancelation proves Google's lack of commitmentChromeOS may eventually be replaced by Android 26:31 | Dueling Reviews I love the iPhone 16 Pro, but Apple's cameras are aging next to AndroidApple iPhone 16 Pro review: Apple's best, but no better than AndroidiPhone 16 Pro Max review: More Android than ever, for better and for worseAndroid already has its first Camera Control cloneOppo's Find X8 Pro packs dual periscopes, a haptic shutter button, and oodles of AIThis is my favorite photo snapped with the Oppo Find X8 Pro Our regular hosts are Daniel Bader and Will Sattelberg. Antitrust or Anti-Google?

Like many families during American Thanksgiving, we've made too much Android Police podcast this week. The drumbeat towards Android 16 officially began with a thump, so why not talk about what's going on inside of it? The AI people are boasting about how they'll be going "agentic" in 2025, so why not catch that trend by its baby legs and put it against our calipers before runaway expectations catch fire? And why not dig a little deeper at the notion of Google being broken up by the Department of Justice since the agency's finally making the big asks it wants? We've got so many why nots this week that you'll be hearing even more from this week's taping come next holiday week! 01:29 | Let's Start with Android 16 Android 16: Developer Preview 1, features, and official release windowThe first Android 16 developer preview just landed: Here’s what you need to knowAndroid 16 will make the Photo Picker feel more integrated in appsHealth Connect is adding support for medical records in Android 16Android 16 might let Gemini order food for youNotification overload to meet its match in Android 16The Pixel 6 might get Android 16 after all 40:19 | Let's End with Chrome DOJ wants Google to sell Chrome to end its search monopolyA ChatGPT-powered browser could soon gun for Chrome's supremacyArc Search for Android is now available for allThe EU's new default browser rules work; here's what it means for the US Our regular hosts are Daniel Bader and Will Sattelberg. Can Samsung Ever Lead Again?

The importance of Samsung in the Android ecosystem, in spite of our whining about its tepidness, remains paramount. So, how will this tech leader carve its path in 2025? Perhaps an all-Snapdragon year of flagships? A tri-foldable to answer the calls of Huawei? Or a delay in Galaxy AI features that were promised to come with One UI 7? James Peckham joins Will this week as the Android Police podcast paints out the plot. Plus, the demise of Amazon's Freevee, the continued demise of Xbox's future, and a nifty new thing we've done with the Pixel 9 (and might do with other phones, should you want it). 03:24 | Samsung Samsung Galaxy S25 launch date just leaked from two different sourcesGalaxy S25s will use Snapdragon worldwide due to poor Samsung Foundry yieldsOne UI 7 might not bring the upgrades you're waiting forSamsung's tri-fold phone might use an 'infolding' design to solve durability problemsSamsung may outsource Exynos to TSMC and scrap in-house Snapdragon plans 23:30 | Big Thoughts Google has made searching the Play Store so frustrating, I don't even bother anymoreReview: Google's Pixel 9 display is as good as it gets 39:28 | The Bag Xbox boss confirms a handheld console is in the worksValve's snowy Steam Deck is coming down the chimney just in time for ChristmasAmazon pulls the plug on Freevee, its free ad-supported streaming service Our regular hosts are Daniel Bader and Will Sattelberg. Will and Daniel are back on the Android Police podcast covering some breaking news that folks in our space have been expecting for a while now. But will Epic Games and the Department of Justice actually bring Google to heel? After all, we are talking about an internet monolith controlling several major markets that consist of our core experiences navigating the online and mobile worlds. And will the relief sought be the relief brought forth? Also, we take a twirl around the edge of your phone's screen, get a wake-up call from Nintendo, and recall the Microsoft Kin on the show this week! 04:12 | Axe Grinding Epic just won almost everything it asked for in its Google Play Store trialGoogle's appeal of the Epic ruling asks 'Why not Apple?'4 ways the Play Store could change after Google ordered to offer alternatives to its app platformThe DOJ wants to break up Google, suggests splitting Chrome and Android 45:35 | Lower Stakes Smartphone bezels are almost too slim, and that's a big problem for usabilityNintendo's Alarmo calls on your favorite characters to get you out of bedSamsung says sorry for not innovating enoughMicrosoft Introduces ‘Kin’, Shows That They, Like, Totally Get KidsGoogle Pixel Buds Pro 2 review: A splash of color in a drab market Our regular hosts are Daniel Bader and Will Sattelberg.
