    ArtFreaks Ep7: Chris Torres on selling a $600,000 Cat NFT and the Future of the Creator Economy

    In this episode we are joined by Puerto Rican artist Chris Torres. Dallas based Torres, is a digital artist that has been publishing art online for over 20 years. His digital art piece Nyan Cat is one of the most recognisable memes on the entire internet and, in March 2021, at the hight of the NFT Boom, Nyan Cat sold for approximately $600,000 cementing Chris’ place in digital art history. In todays episode we delve into the future of the creator economy, the opportunities that web3 unlocks for artists and talk through the life changing auction for that famous digital art grail.     In this episode of ArtFreaks we are joined by Margate based Video Artist, Guy J Oliver. Often musical, with humorous word-play, Guy's films expertly balance a light-heartedness approach to serious topics with a deeply personal narrative that is so admirably vulnerable that it leads the viewer to self reflect and examine their own feelings and relationships. In this episode we talk about the thinking behind the video work and how his increasingly vulnerable and personal films are conceived. We also discuss Quench, a non-profit gallery and project space situated in Margate, run by Guy and his partner Artist Lindsey Mendick.  Quench is centered around community and support that allows emerging artists the freedom to explore new ideas and put on exhibitions to showcase their talent.
