But more than that, he’s a pillar of authenticity in a world where it can seem like it’s begging for the opposite of that. In this episode, we get really excited because we met out of the pure audacity of me inviting a stranger from the Internet to sleep on my couch (he got upgraded to bed when my roommate/best friend and I decided to cuddle up instead and let him have mine). It’s hard to believe that someone as sweet and kind as Jonah can not only “hack it,” in the industry, but still lets it bring so much joy to his being. If you need someone to believe in you, Jonah is your guy. This has to be the most positive, encouraging, calming, sweetest as pie episode that we’ve done yet. Love you, Jonah!     DJ Hip Stir Brings Beats, Babes, and BCommunity

DJ Hip Stir is an Austin based DJ, producer, festival producer, music label owner, music producer, and will acquire more hats as the industry demands. A teacher first, aka Kelsea started DJing in Hanoi with SYSter sounds and brought that same energy woman and femme-fronting community back to the states with her. In the time she’s been back, she’s made a name for herself locally and beyond. In this episode we talk about quitting your job, starting America’s first and only electronic music festival highlighting women artists, and how to get from that A to B I just mentioned. Choosing to take control of your career in an industry where they really want you not to do that is no small feat. Hip Stir’s had many a problems that have needed creative solutions. And all the things you hear about being a woman in the music industry are true. But you never doubted that, right? Hip Stir’s perseverance and good spirit are a good reminder of what you can get done when you really really want something done. The phrase that comes to mind thinking about our convo is “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” Except you also need community, of course. Thank you for the motivation!     Aziza is the Artist's Art Worker

Her personal and professional art is based around collectivism and spreading voices for vulnerable people who are unheard. She walks the walk and talks the talk. If you have nothing but good things to say about Germany, this is not the episode for you. We don’t shy away from talking about oppression, genocide, political silence, and politics that silence. As an art worker, Aziza’s day to day shies away from what one may imagine a typical artist does. But most art can’t get done without the art worker to support. Community activism is a need and not a want yesterday and today. Further resources for topics mentioned in this episode are @strikegermany and @archive_of_silence. Aziza followed up with an email: Another thing I got caught up with in the last couple of weeks was a new resolution passed by the German government that severely limits freedom of speech particularly for artists, and threatens expulsions for students protesting the Israeli genocide and also deportation and revoking of nationality for cultural workers who do the same. This, on top of cutting public funding for artists and arts spaces whose activities are deemed "anti-semitic", which we already discussed in the episode. The resolution also specifically labels "Middle Eastern and North African people" as its targets. After leaving LA and losing his desire to work in the Big Industry of entertainment, Dan needed an authorship over the work he wanted to create. Accepting that he wants to be selfish about his work, Dan's been able to carve out a path that's still being carved.
