Artists Talk! with Solh Solh

A new mix of an episode coming with this addition to the series: Two artists from Canada, Niteshade and ZOVAH join for a conversation. With ZOVAH being a bass artist and Niteshade being a house artist this conversation is definitely a first for Artists Talk, however it doesn't stop them from being great friends and even playing sets together. In listening to this one, you'll hear some solid advice for artists as well as really great views on staying happy throughout life. Something that no one can use enough of!

Adding some new sounds to the Artists Talk roster for this episode, bass artists Dack Janiels and Decimate join to give a perspective on the dance music industry from an angle outside of house music. Dack Janiels founding his record label, 40oz. Cult, which he runs alongside his sister Wenzday, spoke a bit about its origin and what it means to him. There are so many "hard truths" about being a professional in the industry that these two touch on in this chat, including the topic of how all-encompassing the job of an artist is nowadays. Never a dull moment either, with great stories throughout the episode.

On with a pair of artists in the house scene who have honed their craft and have been supported by many labels and artists, Tombz and Phantasm. Both of these guys have gone through their fair share of career transitions, with Phantasm having rebranded recently from his prior house project of "Achilles", and Tombz splitting up from being a duo project a couple years back. Throughout the episode, we talk about being a DJ in a city's music scene and how the artists in every scene are interconnected, effecting eachother with actions that they take in their career. Also, we have some fun talking about how producers in dance music play a role in videogames. Now how's that for a topic out of left field? Joining me for episode three, a duo from deep up north in Canada, FOOTWURK, come on alongside a fellow east coast house producer of mine, Mekii. Chatting about Mekii's musical background involving fresh sounds of jazz and pop music, as well as the tight-knit party vibes that FOOTWURK aim for in performances, it's easy to say that this talk was diverse. Exchanging music, sharing opinions about releasing music, and what the label game looks like outside of the house scene comparatively was even eye-opening for me. Talking with two artists who are quickly getting more and more recognition in the UK bass scene, Kyogre and 1997.
