    My Story

    I'm so excited to share the second season of my podcast, As I Recall. This season you will hear some familiar voices from the first season as I will be sharing some of my personal memories from college and from childhood. We get to some pretty serious topics that I hope can start conversations and that may even help others in need. Episode 1 got some much needed assistance from my friend Barrett Newsome, co-host of the She and I Podcast. We got to a very sensitive topic in conversation but one that was extremely important for me to have. I hope you enjoy the conversation.

    Episode 5: Remember the Sabbath

    Alex recalls an epic freestyle session that happened during his wedding in 2017 with Chris Livingston. Chris give us a few tips for new fathers as he navigates this new world called parenthood. The conversation turned to profit and success and work. Chris recalls a sermon discussing The Sabbath as what is means to him and his family.     Episode 4: I’m about to be a Dad pt. 2

    Alex continues the conversation about early stages of fatherhood. You will be hearing the stories or Keese Curry and Greg Vann, two of Alex’s Line Brothers. Shoutout to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Alex is in a different element talking to these brothers. The brothers both will share their stories about how they found out they were going to be fathers as well as what is it like being in the Delivery Room! It gets graphic! The conversation leads to a great discussion regarding support for women during pregnancy and during birth.     Alex recently gets news that he is expecting his first child! You’ll hear the story of how he found out and his immediate reactions. Alex asks his father and friends to share their experiences. How did you find out you were about to be a dad? How did you feel? The conversation led to a discussion about what it can be like raising children. You’ll hear lessons learned during parenthood as well as a few great tips. The fellas also discussed how their spiritual journeys played a role in their parenting as well as in life.     Episode 2: Mommy and Daddy

    Alex introduces his wife, mother to be, Jasmine Sweet! Jasmine recalls the moment she knew she was pregnant with a sweet baby girl. She begins to share this moment by introducing how music is such a huge part of this family. We remember loved ones we lost and shared how we feel our loved ones are still with us in some way. As Jasmine begins to tell the story, Alex sets the scene. It all begins with a visit to the gym and a song, Zombie by Fela Kuti. Get your tissues ready! This is a beautiful moment.     Episode 1: Roots

    Alex speaks to his father and a few of his fathers friends about the 1977 TV mini series Roots. The discussion is centered around what is was like to go back to high school and junior high as a black boy after watching each episode. The experiences each brother shared was very interesting to say the least. Conversation lead to what is was like growing up in the late 60s and 70s as a black man. We quickly learn that some of those same past experiences are still happening today.
