By and large, I recommend this book, but it had its problems. As a novel, it needs an editor to clean it up. For example, the author seemed obsessed with characters not recognizing what pronouns refer to. (e.g. of the form "I love squibbets." "What are those?" "What are what?"). I believe there was a point to doing this, but he killed it by including it in almost every conversation until I could actually predict the next line of dialogue. An editor would've caught that. This may seem petty, but there were several issues of this nature.
As a story, it is ok. It's of the form of a couple kids going through a new land and having a series adventures while looking for something. Slightly staid, but as long as the adventures are interesting, this works. Most were.
As a podcast, he messes up occasionally, but not enough to annoy. For some reason, it was the quietest podcast I've ever had, which was an annoyance at times. The author reads it himself and does a very fine job, especially at his character voices.
All in all, it wasn't a waste; I just think perhaps he should not consider it a finished project.
