Discussion: Post-Modernism is Fading...A discussion with Bobby Angel, author of The Postmodern Predicament

Postmodernism, once dominant, thrived on rejecting objective truth and eroding traditional values and institutions. While it sparked discussions around power and identity, its extreme views left behind societal fragmentation, moral relativism, and a decay of shared principles. Ultimately, postmodernism has eaten itself through its own absurdity. Its decline marks the pendulum swinging back toward frameworks grounded in order, truth, and constructive narratives. We’re seeing a renewed interest in classical philosophies, national identity, and a healthy skepticism toward relentless deconstruction. This moment presents Western societies with a chance to rebuild on solid, cohesive foundations. By reclaiming respect for truth and tradition, while thoughtfully addressing power structures, the West can tackle today’s challenges with clarity and purpose. I had a great discussion with author Bobby Angel on his new book, The Postmodern Predicament. In it, Bobby unpacks why your life has meaning. Drawing from ancient and modern thinkers, personal stories, historical lessons, and even popular movies, he presents philosophical concepts in a way that’s both engaging and digestible. Ambassador Eduard Habsburg - "We Are Living In A Crazy World & The Habsburg Way"

In this podcast episode, host Chadwick talks with Ambassador Eduard Habsburg, Hungary's ambassador to the Holy See and the Sovereign Order of Malta.  Show notes: Eduard, an atypical diplomat with a background in scriptwriting and children's television, shares his unconventional journey to becoming an ambassador.  He discusses his eclectic career, including his work in children's television and screenwriting. He humorously mentions that he has even written a zombie movie script but is unlikely to write one about his diplomatic experiences due to confidentiality. Eduard is also a prolific author and an active presence on Twitter, where he engages with followers daily. The conversation shifts to Eduard's recent book, "The Habsburg Way," which explores the importance of family life, a central theme for the Habsburg family known for their Catholic values and numerous children. Eduard emphasizes that marriages in his family were often strategic, aimed at peacekeeping through alliances, though love played a role in later centuries. He argues that shared values and faith are crucial for a successful marriage, a principle reflected in the enduring marriages of his ancestors. Eduard addresses the contemporary decline in birth rates in Europe and the West, attributing it to a lack of encouragement for larger families. He praises Hungary's efforts to reverse this trend through supportive policies. He highlights the challenges of choosing a life with many children, which often means sacrificing material comforts for deeper fulfillment and faith-driven values. The discussion also touches on the role of faith in an increasingly secular world. Eduard notes that despite the rise of atheism, faith remains strong globally, with significant growth in regions like China and Africa. He encourages the use of social media as a platform for sharing faith and connecting with like-minded individuals. Eduard concludes by sharing insights from his upcoming book, which offers practical advice on building a wholesome family. He illustrates his points with touching historical anecdotes from his family, underscoring the timeless value of faith and strong family bonds in achieving a fulfilling life. Richard Tice, leader of the Reform Party UK

Richard Tice, the leader of the Reform Party, is a prominent businessman and politician. He previously served as the CEO of CLS Holdings and Quidnet Capital LLP. Tice co-founded and co-chaired the pro-Brexit campaign groups Leave.EU and Leave Means Leave. As a long-time donor and member of the Conservative Party, Tice played a pivotal role in founding the Brexit Party, which later became Reform UK. He was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the East of England in the 2019 European Parliament elections, serving until the UK's withdrawal from the EU in January 2020. Tice took on the leadership of Reform UK in March 2021. Recently, in May 2024, he announced his candidacy for the Boston and Skegness constituency in the upcoming General Election this July. Today, he joins Chad to discuss Brexit, leaving the ECHR, and other pressing issues. Show notes: In this podcast episode, Chadwick talks with Richard Tice, the leader of the Reform Party in the UK, discussing his campaign for parliament and vision for the country. Tice passionately criticizes the current state of the UK, highlighting economic stagnation, high taxes, and mismanagement. He describes Reform UK as an entrepreneurial political startup that has quickly gained traction and aims to offer an alternative to the traditional Conservative and Labour parties, which he views as failing the nation. Tice underscores the need for competition in politics to drive improvement, expressing frustration with the Conservative Party for betraying its principles and failing to manage lawful and illegal immigration effectively. He emphasizes that true conservatism includes reducing government interference, promoting personal responsibility, and fostering economic growth through lower taxes and support for small businesses. A key aspect of Tice's platform is addressing the immigration crisis. He advocates for strict measures to control illegal immigration, including returning migrants to France, and calls for smart immigration policies that prioritize skilled workers who contribute positively to the economy. Tice argues that mass, low-skilled immigration harms British citizens by depressing wages and straining public services. He also touches on the need to reform the UK's involvement with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), proposing a referendum to leave the ECHR, believing that a sovereign nation should not be subject to external judicial rulings. Tice highlights the importance of preserving national self-determination and accountability to voters. Chadwick and Tice discuss the broader implications of political philosophy and common sense policies. Tice's emphasis on practical solutions, accountability, and the protection of British interests resonates as he outlines his vision for a reformed and prosperous UK. The episode concludes with Tice reiterating his commitment to challenging the political status quo and advocating for meaningful change. Atlantic Playbook Podcast is hosted by Chadwick Hagan.
