CHITTI-CHATS: Identity, Finding Community & Definining Masculinity with Naavikaran

*Trigger warning for Queerphobia & Suicide* Wow, wow, wow!! what a conversation we had with Naavi. Shaya and Lama chat to Naavikaran about their experience moving to Australia from India about 5 years ago and the struggle to find community. We discuss the intersections of being a multi-gender trans woman and finding comfort and joy in being alive in this moment. We talk through the stories behind Naavi's latest track 'Closet'. Shaya asks Naavikaran whether masculinity in itself is the problem with our world and if there even is a different way we can define masculinity & femininity for ourselves. Lama also gets to ask our guest questions from OUR AUDIENCE!!! The questions cover finding a sense of belonging as a queer immigrant in Australia, relationships, and whether coming out to South Asian families can be different from our white counterparts. Enjoy!

Naavikaranwho is an all-around goddess in the form of a multi-gender trans woman, badass entrepreneur, community educator, organiser, writer, and choreographer from India, based in Meanjin (Brisbane). Their work aims to create platforms for storytelling that are accessible and safe for identities of various intersections and communities.
