Authentic Edge Podcast

Andrew Oberdorfer

The Authentic Edge Podcast explores health, healing, and human development in a modern world that our bodies and minds weren’t designed for. Built for modern professionals navigating high demands, this podcast focuses on developing real mental and physical balance — not through trends or surface-level advice, but through practical understanding of how the body and mind actually work. Each episode unpacks common problems seen in the real world: Pain and physical dysfunction Stress and nervous system overload Exercise confusion and poor recovery Limiting beliefs and behavioural patterns Grounded in hands-on experience, this podcast answers real client questions, challenges outdated or misleading health advice, and highlights the common mistakes that keep people stuck. This isn’t about perfection or optimisation for its own sake. It’s about building a system that works — physically, mentally, and practically — in the context of a demanding life. Expect solo deep-dives, practical breakdowns, and clear, no-nonsense guidance across mindset, movement, and healing. No fluff. Just what actually works.

Ep. 11 - The Entire Category of Exercise You're Neglecting | Conditioning Exercise

In this episode, I introduce a concept that I believe is largely missing from the way we think about health and exercise: conditioning exercise. Most people exercise with performance goals in mind. We go to the gym to build strength, improve fitness, lose weight or perform better in sport. Those are all worthwhile goals—but they leave out an important piece of the puzzle. Modern life has us sitting at desks, driving cars and spending hours in static positions before asking our bodies to suddenly perform under heavy loads. It's no surprise that so many people live with persistent aches, stiffness, limited mobility or movements they simply avoid because they don't feel right. Conditioning exercise is different. Rather than training your body to perform, it trains your body to feel and function well. It includes the lower-intensity work that nourishes your tissues, restores movement, improves mobility, maintains healthy joints and muscles, and helps your body recover from the demands of everyday life. In many ways, conditioning exercise sits alongside recovery, rehabilitation and maintenance exercise—but I believe it deserves its own name because it represents something much broader: caring for the quality and condition of your body, not just its performance. If you've ever wondered why you exercise regularly but still don't feel good in your body, this episode may change the way you think about movement forever.
