Welcome to Authentically Basic! We’re Mackie and Jessie -- two L.A. gals working our way up in the entertainment industry while we simultaneously try to figure out this thing called life. We don't think the P.S.L. ☕️ is everything, but we do love a hot-girl walk and have nothing against Lululemon. (Unfortch. that's not an ad...) And we only sometimes abbreviate our words. We’re asking questions and debating what it means to really live life in this modern world. Join us Wednesdays while we sort through it all one conversation (and avo. toast) at a time.

What The "High Standard" Men Bring To The Table

Keep your standards high and your expectations reasonable, they say... After Jessie was asked, "What makes up the 'High Standard' man that you're looking for," at a bar one day, the two got to thinking... Mackie and Jessie breakdown the top 5 qualities that they look for in a man -- and why they're so important in a relationship. (Said from two gals who *aren't* in a relationship. The irony is not lost on them...) All is well, just like our future high-standard-man, on this episode of Authentically Basic.  Authentically Basic episodes drop on Wednesdays! Taylor Swift Is Getting Her Flowers. Why'd It Take So Long?

Why Taylor Swift Deserves This Moment (Mackie and Jessie's version) 🎶 Mackie and Jessie feel like there's been a shift in the past year+ where the majority and mass public respect or appreciate Taylor Swift. But it hasn't always been that way. They feel like even the old Taylor Swift haters have kept mum these days. So, what changed? What shifted for everyone to start respecting Taylor? The gals unpack Taylor Swift's nearly 20-year-long icon status and share some of their fan-girl moments. All is well and enthusiastic on this episode of Authentically Basic.  New Authentically Basic episodes drop on Wednesdays! ReUpped: Why Social Media Literacy SHOULD be a Gen Ed Requirement + Healthy Habits To Get Into

Jessie is solo (in her love life, but also for this episode of AB!) today to reshare, and ReUp, a thought-provoking podcast she listened to the other day. 💡 NPR's Hidden Brain podcast made some really strong points as to why anxiety and depression is seemingly on the rise in the US, and how additions to things that give us hits of happiness are actually, in the longer-term, making us unhappy.  Jessie stands tall on her soapbox for 18 minutes while she explains and ponders psychiatrist Anna Lembke's "plenty paradox" and, perhaps too passionately, shares why "Social Media Literacy" should be a general education requirement for all students growing up with technology.  All is well and "defogged" on this episode of Authentically Basic.  New Authentically Basic episodes drop on Wednesdays!  Follow along: Mackie @mackie_rae Jessie @jessiereaprice And keep up with the convos @authenticallybasic

    Stepping Into A New Era

Jessie and Mackie are feeling a new energy in the air. Things are coming together nicely and peacefully... but why? 🤔 On today’s episode we look back at what healthy habits we’ve adopted that might have led us to our new eras, and we discuss what we’ve cut out or cut back on to better our day-to-day lives. While Mackie leans into an Intentional Era, Jessie seems to think she’s already waist-deep in her “Grandma” Era. 😂 All is well and eclectic on this episode of Authentically Basic.  New Authentically Basic episodes drop on Wednesdays!  Follow along: Mackie @mackie_rae Jessie @jessiereaprice And keep up with the convos @authenticallybasic

Who Are The Cool Girls and Hustle Girls of This Modern World ✨

In this TikTok-inspired conversation, Jessie and Mackie debate the differences between the “cool girls” and the “hustle girls” of the modern era we live in. They share how you can spot the difference between these types of women, what a "faux" cool or hustle girl would look like, where they think they fall on Jessie’s “diaphragm” (she meant to say “diagram,” but Mackie hilariously rolls with it!) and ponder why we’re even labeling women as such in the first place. 🙃 New Authentically Basic episodes drop on Wednesdays! Yay! I'm a Graduate... Now What?! What The Post Graduation Experience is Really Like

It’s about that time of year again where a new class of students graduate and enter “the real world.” This time in your life is filled with uncertainty and endless opportunity which can feel extremely overwhelming, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Mackie and Jessie open up about their different yet similar post-grad experiences and share what they wish someone would have told them upon graduation. Plus, they give tips to managing any anxiety that might come from the unknown path ahead. Like our lord and savior, Jay Shetty once (sorta) said, “There’s no point in knowing because nobody actually knows. But there is a point in doing, thinking, and feeling.” Trust the process. Confidence Is Like An... Onion?

This week Mackie and Jessie are back to discuss all things CONFIDENCE. With the nature vs. nurture debate in mind we wondered, is one born with true inner confidence or is it a skill that can be developed? What does confidence look like – if it looks like anything at all? And are there tricks to growing one’s self-esteem? Mackie and Jessie share what’s led to certain times in their lives when they’ve felt the most confident and share their “Good Gossip” of the week. Let us know how you liked this episode by giving it a review and rating. We’d love to hear from you too! DM or email us what topics you and your friends are discussing, so Mackie and Jessie can chime in and join the convo! New Authentically Basic episodes drop on Wednesdays. Can You Create Real Connections (Friendships) on Social Media?

In our debut episode we debate if social media is actually a good way to meet friends. How can we take an Instagram relationship and turn it into a ride-or-die kind of friendship? We often hear that Instagram is “fake reality,” but does that mean everything about it is? In this episode, we take a stab at answering those questions and share how we've benefited from using socials as a networking tool to connect with like-minded people. We also share our origin story of how Instagram connected us, two total strangers, back in 2020.  New episodes drop on Wednesday!
