    Vanuit het traditioneel Boeddhisme kennen we ‘de Vijf leefregels’. De vijf leefregels dienen niet als geboden te worden gezien maar als richtlijn, als aandachtspunten om mee te oefenen. Ze worden daarom ook wel de ‘Boeddhistische Morele Voorschriften’ genoemd. Onderzoek de leefregels telkens weer met wijsheid en bedenk of iets heilzaam (bevordelijk) is of niet. 1. Vermijd te doden en handel met respect jegens alle vormen van leven.

    Na grootste inspanning heeft de herder de os gevangen. Te heftig nog diens luimen, zijn kracht nog te razend, om gemakkelijk zijn wildheid te temmen. Nu eens gaat hij ervandoor en klimt naar hoge vlakten, dan weer dringt hij ver door in diepe, nevelige, bewolkte plaatsen en wil zich verbergen.
