    Avenue Red Podcast #266 - Owen Jay

    Avenue Red is proud to present the second mix on the series from one of Malta's finest exports in underground house and techno music... DJ, producer and Batti Batti label boss Owen Jay returns after a cavernous 12-year hiatus since he recorded episode #010 for the main podcast series back in February 2014. A lot has changed in the world since then, but thankfully, nothing too much has altered or eroded from Owen's discerning sense of sound, his fiery passion and talent for exploring the finest, deepest 4/4 grooves in his colourful bag of tricks! If anything, this even longer exploration shows he has remained very much true to form. Summer is not over yet... "I'm based in Malta and have been DJing since 1993. These days I enjoy playing smaller venues with a good sound system, where people come for the music rather than the hype. At home, I always look forward to playing places like Big Ron's, Sunny Side Festival, and other intimate parties put together by promoters who genuinely care about creating the right atmosphere. This all-vinyl mix is a reflection of what I've been listening to lately - a blend of old records, newer discoveries, and a few tracks from my homies. It includes a track by my son, Niko Jay, a test pressing from Melchior Sultana's forthcoming EP, and Sam's Minima 0.2. The opening track is a minimal house groove I created on modular. Over the years I've released music on a number of labels, but lately I've been enjoying putting out small lathe-cut editions. I also enjoy experimenting with modular synths and other bits of gear, following ideas wherever they lead. For this experimental side of my music, I use the alias Sequential Feedback, under which I have an album coming out in September."     Avenue Red only has a loose, sparse scattering of electro and breaks mixes across it's now exactly 13-year history, however we do see that arena of sounds as an integral and important part of the musical landscape that we inhabit. We could pick you out dozens of mixes we released over the years akin to this, but they are quite infrequent. But now, enter a newcomer to the series, the man like Action Morton who hails from Nova Scotia, the scenic Canadian maritime province on the Atlantic coast, famous for its 13,000 km of coastline. He sent it across the pond. We took a listen, and thought... "this is a great mix - one we could not refuse". And we did not want to. We were given no reason to. We did not think that there were any plausible suggestions as to why it would have been a good idea to... so, whateverrrrr! Press play, then read on. "Hey I'm Andrew Morton.     Our resident correspondent Amaury Rondon AKA NEZ from Santo Domingo returns to Avenue Red after his awesome tripartite 10th anniversary album of mixes he brewed for us 2 years ago (link below). This fresh addition from the WarmState label boss is a straight-up summery, groovy, funky, tropical deep house mix that fits the current climes so very sweetly.     Avenue Red welcomes a newcomer to the series... someone who has been keenly listening and learning well along the way for the whole time the project been running! So, enter Ludoviko, who comes from Freiburg im Breisgau, right in the south west corner of Germany. The town (and Ludoviko) is located just beside the border of France and Switzerland in a beautiful, verdant, and frankly incredible emerald green landscape nestled against the edge of The Black Forest (Schwarzwald). But we are told he often ventures to Berlin almost as a second home. This tight, varied and intriguing vinyl mix is simply 105 minutes of the man himself shooting from the hip from his collection with something that is really original and refreshing, as he traces down from the tip of the tree to the networks of it's roots.     Glasgow lad Chris Currie — better known by his production and DJ alias Dubrovnik (UK) — returns to Avenue Red with a two-hour payload of precision deep, techy, hypnotic goodness. Expect shimmering splashes of melody and colour throughout, alongside plenty of dub-infused pressure in this earthy, tripped-out brew of tunes. This mix is partly in honour of Chris in his absence at this year's repeat summer daze event @ OverDraught in Levenshulme, south Manchester. Only one of the Glasgow Chrises (other one being Chris Curtis - in attendance!) could make it this time. But to warm us up? We have this ace mix that somehow evokes that moment in Alan Partridge's chat show where 007 chap Roger Moore couldn't quite make it to the show... got stuck near Chiswick Roundabout apparently. Awful, awful business... Dubrovnik (UK) is not visiting Croatia either... he's just playing at some prestigious golf tournament. But good luck to him, right?!     Avenue Red had a very enjoyable sunshine-drenched live session on the 10th May 2025 at the excellent underground techno pub named OverDraught, located in south Manchester’s Levenshulme area. This was a 10-hour long session and the original recording has been frankly slept on for precisely 1 year. But here we are now proud to present this juicy excerpt, which is the first 5 hours and 40 minutes of the event when things were "relatively coherent", shall we say. Expect all shades of underground house, deep house, techno, dub techno, tech house, electro, electronica, IDM and more from a shedload of records and some digital action too!     Avenue Red Podcast #260 - Rob Bellfield

    The Avenue Red Podcast presents a sparkling vinyl-only debut mix from Rob Bellfield, who hails from Utrecht province in south-central Netherlands. Rob is a DJ and artist/producer who also masquerades under the monikers Artileqt and Elusan, as well as operating under his own name and his earlier works under the variation name Rob Belleville. He has built up a tidy catalogue of releases since mid-2000s on some excellent underground labels (see his discography in the links below). Here Rob has glued together a dazzling selection that is eye-wateringly cohesive and tightly mixed, as he brings forth some special ambient sounds in the opening stages, which then evocatively segue into purely golden deep house & techno cuts, old and new. "Avenue Red caught my attention since I noticed that a couple of my musical friends and cohorts have also graced the podcast series with a guest mix, including Rai Scott, Brad P, Andy Green, Georges White and Damo B to name a few. For Avenue Red I wanted to showcase my preference for electronic music with emotional deepness, but somehow always with a focus on a dancefloor in its early hours.
