Joel was never driven by fame, even though he worked alongside people who were household names. One of those individuals is my guest today. Marc Shaiman who is an American Composer and lyricist. Per Wikipedia he is widely known for his collaborations with Billy Crystal and Rob Reiner, both of whom my brother worked with as well. Currently Marc is releasing his book, “Never Mind the Happy” – Showbiz Stories from a Sore Winner. In October of this year, Marc and his partner joined us as we Celebrated Joel’s Life at Caffe’ Lena in Saratoga Springs along with a vibrant 2nd Line parade led by New Orleans musician Glen David Andrews—a joyful, musical farewell that captured Joel’s spirit perfectly. Caffè Lena—“Where the Music Never Dies”—and its School of Music will continue to grow, evolve, and inspire in Joel’s memory. His presence is woven into the fabric of that community, and this series is one more way to keep his light shining.Today I bring you Story #2. Marc will share his Joel Stories, filling me in on a side of my brother that I know little of. Joel was a storyteller and he died telling a story, but now we get to hear about Joel.Welcome, Marc Shaimanhttps://www.facebook.com/marc.shaiman/If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with Karenkh.yesican1@gmail.com440 526 1530

There’s no direct line from where we are to where we’re going. The journey twists, turns, and throws obstacles in our way. But at each intersection, we have choices. And when we walk with mindfulness, we become more attuned to our surroundings—and the unexpected opportunities that rise with each step. You don’t have to navigate this path alone. There are others just like you, staring down blank walls and wondering which direction to take next. This podcast is a space for shared experiences—because sometimes, a story you hear may echo your own. And that moment of connection might be exactly what you need.Grammy-nominated harpist, composer, and international performer Deborah Henson-Conant (DHC) proudly announces the world premiere of MERCEDITAS BANDURA CONCERTO, an adaptation of her original harp concerto from her Grammy-nominated album, Invention and Alchemy. The work was arranged for bandura by Ukrainian bandura virtuoso Iryna Lytvynenko, who will perform the premiere with the Academic Orchestra of Folk and Popular Music in Kyiv, Ukraine, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, symbolizing Ukraine’s enduring spirit and unity through music. (Broadcast details to come.)MERCEDITAS BANDURA CONCERTO is Iryna’s reimagining of the work for the bandura—Ukraine’s national 65-string instrument, rich with cultural history dating back to the Middle Ages. The Academic Orchestra, founded in 1929, also carries a legacy of resilience, having survived Stalin’s regime, World War II, and now Russia’s ongoing war. This historic collaboration was made possible through The Legacy Bridge Project, a program Deborah launched in 2024 to connect musicians who cannot afford licensing or coaching fees with sponsors eager to make a difference. Sponsors fund the licensing, empowering both composer and performer while bringing the music to wider audiences worldwide.Iryna first reached out to Deborah in June 2024 from war-torn Ukraine, requesting a waiver of the licensing fee to perform one of Deborah’s concertos for a nationally televised concert. It was a defining moment for Deborah—a choice between fair compensation and exposure, a dilemma familiar to many independent artists.“Behind her polite words lay a desperate reality: musicians performing between air raid sirens, composing by candlelight, rehearsing in bomb shelters,” said Deborah. “This wasn’t just about one performance; it was about using art as resistance against despair.”https://www.hipharp.com/If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with Karenkh.yesican1@gmail.com440 526 1530
