Glowing and Growing in Spite Of Challenges: A Season Finale

Glowing and Growing in Spite Of Challenges: A Season Finale

We started this season at the beginning of the “Roaring ‘20s”. Little did we know, this year was coming for us as much as we’d be coming for it. In spite of the pain, turmoil, and confusion of the past year, we’ve also had the opportunity to grow and glow. Hannah and Bianca have been challenged and stretched amidst a pandemic and amplified social unrest. Luckily, Awks was blessed by amazing folks like you all who came and gave us wisdom and courage to persevere in the areas of our dreams, jobs, money, fashion and love. If season 2 taught us anything, it’s to do things “in spite of”. We appreciate all your support thus far and know that ya’ll are growing and glowing with us. Stay on for the ride, it’s getting even better and a bit less awkward. Make sure to leave us a review and connect with us on Instagram @awkspodcast and Facebook at Awks Podcast! Awks out

On Law and Lyrics feat. Dap the Contract

On Law and Lyrics feat. Dap the Contract

    Dap The Contract

In this long awaited episode, we interview Dolapo Akinkugbe aka Dap the Contract. Dolapo is a Nigerian transplant to America, a graduate of Brown University and a recent graduate of Columbia University School of Law (come on 2020 grads!) While his academic resume tells a story of accomplishment on its own, that’s only the beginning. Dolapo is also an accomplished musician, with an amazing ability to play the piano and use his literary prowess to spit some concious bars. We interviewed Dolapo as he was preparing to enter 3L or his last year of law school. We discuss navigating traditional career paths (because ultimately the African parents must be proud) but also pursue your other interests, that may or may not be the road less traveled. We can wait for ya’ll to hear his story, be inspired, encouraged and reminded that you two can be a law student who records visual albums (move over Beyoncé), travels for shows, and speak to the moral fabric of the countries he hails from and the countries he lives in, all while having fun!! Who ya’ll know that can finesse you in LATIN, plays the keys like Alicia and defend the truth and justice, well we know Dolapo aka Dap the Contract. We hope you enjoy this episode and encourage you to check out Dolapo’s work via his website:

Not So Awkward: Thriving in Predominantly White Spaces While Black feat. Shane Lloyd

Not So Awkward: Thriving in Predominantly White Spaces While Black feat. Shane Lloyd

In a society that is marred with social unrest coupled with a pandemic, it’s easy to lose hope and feel like you can do nothing. As part of Hannah and Bianca’s commitment to bringing new voices to the table, we invited Shane Lloyd, who is currently a diversity and inclusion consultant for Cook Ross. Prior to working in diversity and inclusion in corporate America, Shane worked predominantly with students of color at Brown University and Yale University. This episode is particularly poignant as Shane takes us on a journey of discovery and authenticity as we discover new ways to thrive as our full selves in predominantly white spaces. If you have questions or thoughts concerning the formation of identity, how to dismantle the heavily ingrained systems of oppresion in higher education and corporate America, this episode is for you. We suggest a pen and paper be at your disposal, as well as a cup of tea and a snack. Gems are dropped in this episode and we can wait for you to learn the importance of taxes, sweet potatoes and treating the professional world as a dating relationship. Want to chat or see what Shane’s up to on the interwebs? Check out @famusshamus on twitter and instagram, and/or Shane Lloyd on LinkedIn. As always please rate, like and subscribe and if you want to contact us hit us up on Instagram @Awkspodcast or via email at Awkspodcast@gmail. Com
