What happens when 2 Black, artistic roommates go to one of the whitest colleges in America? How does it shape your identity? How do you shape the identity of those around you? The B DORM PODCAST is a crisp and edgy headlong dive into what it’s like growing up on one side of our Nation’s socio-economic color divide – and what the transition into a new alien world is like.
They’re heavy topics, but presented in a way that is lighter in nature, finding humor in the pain. The hosts have taken different paths since 2000/01 when they graduated – and so has the nation. The B DORM PODCAST will discuss the roads that they chose and the ones not taken, the dreams they chose to defer and the ones deferred for them. There are also some stories about some of their wilder experiences, placing them in context with contemporary concerns. The hosts talk about everything from midnight snacks to throwing stacks, and wade into the deep end at times to discuss social justice and politics as well.
It’s a nostalgic look back. But it’s also a brave look ahead. Fun is back.

Reminisce. Live with Marc Bamuthi Joseph. Home for the Holidays with the Huxtables. Redefining Cool Through the Arts. Defining a Culture Through a Meal.

2001 produced one of the greatest collabs ever put down on a track when Common and Mos Def joined Bilal to produce Reminisce. The song is a journey through a life. An exploration of what was, what is, and what could be.
“Just when I think that I forgot you
I hear that dub that we used to rock to
Just when I think I'm gettin' on without you
Somebody passed and asked me about you.”
This episode will take you on the same kind of journey. The B Dorm squad is going home and getting away from campus for summer break. And on that trip back home we have a very special guest — a guide in many ways, a pioneer, a mentor, a brother and a friend.
Marc Bamuthi Joseph (@bamuthi ) is a poet, dancer, playwright, actor, musician, and composer and currently serves as the Vice President and Artistic Director of Social Impact at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. He is a 2017 TED Global Fellow, an inaugural recipient of the Guggenheim Social Practice initiative, and an honoree of the United States Artists Rockefeller Fellowship. Joseph’s opera libretto, We Shall Not Be Moved, was named one of 2017’s “Best Classical Music Performances” by The New York Times.
He’s a badass. He gets things done. And he always has.
The conversation is a warm, thoughtful look at what it takes to make it in America. What it means to succeed as a black man in America. And how to work to subvert the arts and steer the message for a brighter future for all of us.
That’s what B Dorm is all about. Every episode of The B Dorm Podcast is an entertaining and thought provoking experience that will make you laugh, and make you feel. We hope you enjoy the ride. And while you’re at it, go ahead and give us five stars and subscribe at bpod.us.

Keep It Real. GOOOAL!!! Live with Marcus Kwesi O'MARD at Yankee Stadium and NYCFC. Miami SwimWeek. Caribbean Travel Cheat Codes. Don’s Picks: Barack and Michelle Stop By.

In 1995, Philly rapper Jamal came down from the City of Brotherly Love to work with Erick Sermon and put out Keep It Real. It’s a trip back to the classic Queen's sound. The beat. The flow. All of it. It’s a classic, And this episode is too.
From breaking down JT’s trip to SwimWeek in Miami, to the B Dorm Caribbean travel cheat codes, to the fellas first ever remote feed from NYC Futbol Club victory – this episode has a little bit of everything. And then Don throws a bomb in the mix. What would you change about your crib if Barack and Michelle were going to stop by. Hide the weed? Pick up the clothes? Clean your bathroom? No pressure.
That’s what B Dorm is all about. A smart, fun, educated conversation that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is the B Dorm podcast. Pour yourself something. #drinksexy.

Good Times. Black on Black w/JT - Blunts vs Glass. Pick Your Poison - Whose Headline Is It? Dirty Words - Triggered by Triggered. Debate Club: And Now ... Underpants.

Good Times. Black on Black w/JT - Blunts vs Glass. Pick Your Poison - Whose Headline Is It? Dirty Words - Triggered by Triggered. Debate Club: And Now ... Underpants.

In 2002, Styles P joined forces with Swizz Beats and Saint Denson to drop a bomb upon the ears of the world; Good Times (I Get High) was an instant hit, and for a few summers it was the unofficial national anthem for weed heads. The beats, the lyrics – the whole vibe hits hard. Looking back at it, maybe it hit a little too hard? But that’s what happens. The times change. We all get a little older and hopefully a little wiser. A little better. A little more positive. Now Styles P has a juice bar with Jadakiss in the Bronx. And it’s dope. We are always going to support positive change.
And that means that the B Dorm pod isn’t afraid of change. We’re breaking out a couple of new segments. First up is Black on Black with Jehriko. The segment is focused on, as Don eloquently puts it, “Helping your pockets. And helping your habits.” JT breaks down how you can save money and smoke healthier by putting down the blunt and picking up a pipe. That glass has a stigma that goes with it, but should it? It’s a deeper dive into a subject that on the surface seems funny, but there is more to it than that.
Your hosts Don Elivert and Jehriko Turner are the perfect guides to help you explore the stories of the day. They break down how the news cycle has broken down, Twitter’s role and how money and greed are helping to destroy people’s ability to find legit info. It’s a serious topic, but they present it in a fun and informative delivery that’s going to make you laugh, make you think and make you feel.
That’s what B Dorm is all about. A smart, fun, educated conversation that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is the B Dorm podcast. Pour yourself something. #drinksexy.

C.R.E.A.M. Reality vs Reality: When Outrage Overreaches. Why Attack Black? Corporatized Juneteenth Under Fire. Don’s Dystopian Pick: Potato Sole Survivor.

When the Wu-Tang clan dropped Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993, the album was an instant classic. A genre-redefining piece of history. And maybe no track on the album is more iconic than C.R.E.A.M. Cash Rules Everything Around Me.
In a capitalist society, money is as important as air or water to survive. Everything runs on money, so when you start seeing corporate America using black and brown faces to sell shit, just know that there is a reason. Dollar, dollar bills y’all.
But is that reason automatically bad? And even if it isn’t perfect, can’t there still be good outcomes and results? Can’t we celebrate … anything? Have we become so programmed to be angry that we can no longer even recognize positive change? If we can’t agree on a definition of REALITY, does it even matter?
Your hosts Don Elivert and Jehriko Turner are asking tough questions. Deep questions. And they sprinkle in some fun, because part of the challenge we all face is recognizing the wins we get and taking a minute to reflect on the accomplishments – to celebrate the progress. Our society must continue to reckon with its past, but allowing ourselves to be triggered without pausing to examine our reactive tendencies will get us nowhere fast. So press play and get some perspective.
That’s what B Dorm is all about. A smart, fun, educated conversation that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is the B Dorm podcast. Pour yourself something. #drinksexy.

Eye For an Eye. Breaking Down Buffalo. Irrational Fear. If You See Something, Say Something. And Then An Alien Came Thru.

Eye For an Eye. Breaking Down Buffalo. Irrational Fear. If You See Something, Say Something. And Then An Alien Came Thru.

In 1995, Queensbridge's finest — Nas and Mobb Deep — collabed with Raekwon to drop Eye for an Eye. The song is an exploration of a violent world, an oppressive place where people are forced to do what they can to survive:
“I might crack a smile but ain't a damn thing funny,
I'm caught up in the dirt where your hands get muddy.”
Sadly, more than 25 years later, the lyrics still hold true. But now, in places like Buffalo, the threat isn’t coming from the next block over. The threat is coming from the outside. The threat is driving hundreds of miles to target a community because of their race. The threat is real. The threat is growing. The threat is imminent.
Your hosts Don Elivert and Jehriko Turner dig in deep. They explore the pain and reflect on how the only response most people can muster at this point is just to laugh at the irony. Gallows humor. But don’t get it twisted. None of it is funny. Jokes mask the truth and sometimes — most times — that truth is f*****g awful. But the answer isn’t to look away. The answer is to confront it. To name it. To call it out and to hold people accountable. It’s the most important thing we can do as individuals and it’s the most important thing our allies can do, especially when we’re not around. Especially when no one is looking. Change begins at home. And we need some damn change.
Mass shootings are pure evil, but every single one of those people had people in their lives that never stepped up, never stepped in. Are you doing your part to help? Are you doing your part to stop the hatred? To stop it from spreading? We can all do better. We all have to do better.
And later in the pod, in true B Dorm fashion, they take the conversation where you don’t expect. Space. Who comes with and who gets left back? It’s a fun one and you will never guess who Don is taking with him and why. And who he isn’t.
That’s what B Dorm is all about. A smart, fun, educated conversation that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is the B Dorm podcast. Pour yourself something. #drinksexy.

This show is great. I really like the hosts take on topics, even controversial stuff. It feels fair and balanced and isn’t trying to be as extreme as everybody else. It’s a fun and refreshing change and I can’t wait to hear what they do next.

You guys are a great duo. Keep the content coming!
